Found a 1/2 HP on a stand and bit sharpener attachment, $ 30.00. It's only 4 miles from the house and I'm stuck in a hospital 240 miles away! Thankful for a understanding wife. The seller is holding until she gets there in a little while. Been looking for the sharpener and the galvanized stand fits nicely into my grinder utilization plan. I noticed it doesn't have a serial number, anyone have a guess on date built? It does have the plastic switch.

CB:so you are moving to Kentucky not to run from your bride, but to bring her with you because you already have half a dozen of these grinders and she drove to pick you up another one. man you are moving to the garage/shop of your dreams with your dream girl too. Hope you get well soon.

Kev: loved the work and energy to make a rubber foot out of a hockey puck. nice job

Outlaw, found a manual on vintage machine, it's dated 75. Sounds about right.

Driveitsfar , my daughter ended up picking it up for me, they had a long day dealing with the dogs and she adopted one. The wife had to take our three dogs for a meet and greet the new one, so that was a blast for her. Both of them unloaded into my shop for me, so I owe my girls one.
Yep, I have a good one!
I'm seeing the same as you all, just pictures for now. I have a plan for the stand

Thanks for the good wishes..

And the new dog

so I'm guessing you didn't pay the guy in Lewisville for the black 1HP? I pinged him as well and he badgered me with text messages and finally offered to sell it for $80 and then I found the 1/3 HP for $45. I sent him a txt telling him I didn't need his and an hour later he sent a txt saying he sold it for $150. I see it's still listed for $100 so I don't know if he sold it or not. I know it's not a 397 but it looks like a nice grinder but a bit of a drive for me.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/321356372855?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

I texted him and asked if he would take it off ebay for $80. He sent a snarky response saying it was already over $80 on ebay. After me mentioning ebay/paypal fees take 13% and I highly doubt he can ship a 1HP grinder for $21, he still didn't bite. Oh well, I tried. What do y'all think it will sell for? Sometimes ebay buyers can amaze me.

Tedsters,

This is a link for a manual for your grinder. It does not have a wiring diagram though. I did see diagrams in other manuals, I'll keep looking to see if here is one that matches the wiring in mine, which is the same 1/3 HP grinder.
It has a publication date of 1963.

Thanks i have been looking a little for a diagram also no luck

1 HP grinders are not easily found. he does have $80 already bid and 2 days left in his auction so do you really blame him for not taking your $80 offer? he must have got your message because now his shipping is around $37.

keep an eye on it and see if you can pick it up if he is local and if you win the auction.

or look for another. 3/4 HP on these block grinders are hard to slow down so that is another option if you need a lot of power.

Is this an OEM stand? It's a 1/4 HP and the lady's asking $60. Are the stands sought after? They seem few and far between.

Organ: if it's not an original craftsman stand it does have the cool look to it. if it's metal and the grinder runs i'd have no problem giving the seller her $60 asking price and i don't need another grinder.

i tried to trade my original crown top stand for my commercial block grinder for the original stand that looks similar and i got an emphatic "NO" from the owner.

good luck

Shape of the stand Drives, they had that type stand available for the band saw, table saw, jointer and other big power tools back then
I have one for one of my grinders and one for a belt/disc sander. :D

jakemac,

Thank you for the CM catalog. I added it to my 'library'.

Wouldn't be so cool to have a few of those power tools?!

BTW - I have a couple, three of the grinder stands (er, should we start calling them pedestals?).

Anyway, I agree it looks like a CM grinder stand.

I'd like a better look at the label on the column. I've never seen one is such condition.

Check out his feedback. - "New ebayer, think he meant well, needs serious packing lessons!item made it ok tks"

I would make it a local pick-up, just because the risk of damage durring shipping this heavy item is high.

I agree, the funny thing is he still has it listen on Craigslist and says he will take it off ebay for $150. I live pretty close to him and he has been really washy with this sale. Based on the dealings with him over text, I'm not sure this is a grinder I would want. He has been shady.

you forgot to mention you were contacting him through Craigslist in your first post so i agree with you that you should step away and wait for another one.

they are not that rare, but when a nice one comes up you have to run sometimes.

good luck

I went to a local industrial supply house and dug through their spacers/bushings and bumpers and came up with 4 of these.

They were $1.50 a piece but I could only find 4. I picked up something similar but different for the others. I may look for these bushings, now that I know they're a perfect fit.

She's home. Runs great. Made June 22 1964. Pedestal has numbers cast in it: 33222-103. The sticker you see is actually several stickers. The bottom one says: B 063538 ALLIED 47

Well, that answers my question. Last week I offered a guy $25.00 (cause I'm a cheap *******...and didn't have any idea of value), He scoffed at me and said he'd keep it. Don't blame him.:dunno:

Got my 1/3hp on the table with my 1/2hp today. Pretty good mobile setup for my limited space:

Psyched - now I just need to get some buffing wheels and set up the 1/3hp with them...maybe a wire wheel as well.

Good feeling to have some good 'ole USA-Made grinding power in the garage!

Just picked up a 1/2 HP 7" Blockhead with stand, PN 387.19591 and haven't had a chance to clean it yet. Seems to be complete and it good operating condition.

Paid $50 plus 3 gallons of gas, so about $60. I thought it was very fair considering the seller also sold me his Reed 204 1/2 for an extra $20. That should be a fun project when the weather warms up.

:)

Nice compact setup. I know what you mean with the USA grinding power.

Exmaximal1, after reading about the stands and their worth, I'm not sure if you get one MAJOR **** or three regular big *****, as each one is worthy.

Do we even need the rubber feet? I mean, these things run smooth. I think out of all of mine, I probably only have a couple of he rubbers. I use a couple just sitting the bench and they don't move on there own.
I guess when bolted down they may vibrate on he mounts.

Now the newer CM I have ( non block) needs a rubber mat to stay in place, what a difference 25-30 years make.
