whats a matco imperial roller worth?

I have a Matco Imperial top chest that I inherited from my father when he passed. Unfortunately he traded the bottom cabinet for another at some point. Found a roller with side cabinet and folding shelf on the local CL. It is rough though, will probably need a complete repaint and overhaul. Seller wants $300, which given the condition, seems high. Does it sound about right?

Do you have a picture or drawer count? I'm not familiar with a matco "imperial roller". If you are talking about the 8 drawer box with 5 drawer side cabinet. Yes I'd agree that is a bit rough for the $.

Yep, that is the one I figured you were talking about. Where did the imperial name come from? I've never heard it called that.

The bottom, main box is a 33" wide 18" 8 drawer MB920. It's a solid box, but still an old friction slide box. LOL at the "good condition for it's age" comment. The side box is the best part of that deal. I'd say maybe $200+/- a bit depending on in person condition for the entire setup. The main 8 drawer box looks like it has been rode hard a put up wet, it looks a bit crusty. Just my 2¢

What size is the top box you have? The matching top for that setup is a 33" wide, 15" deep, 10 drawer MB910. It should have 3 long drawers, 6 shorter drawers and 1 middle deep drawer.

You'd be amazed, there is a tool box listed locally that has been up for 2+ years now, 10% price drop ONCE. It's listed for about 3x what they go for on ebay.

Having cash waved in front of a buyer often has an "aphrodisiac effect" and they cave. It all depends on how bad they want the money, how bad they want the space back, or how patient they are...

I'm going to relist it for 400 and see how a 100 discount works?". What a joke! I'll see if it's still for sale in another 4 months.

the roller cab looks to be mid - late 80's

at the time matco and mac both had paint fading issues.

side cab looks to be slightly newer.

former co-worker had 2 sets of 900 series matco boxes that faded like that.

Here's my school of thought on this...

If you contact him in another 4 months, he's still got you. The seller has all the control in this case. Clearly he doesn't need to sell the box and he's not desperate for money so you're waiting on him. In all of this time, you haven't found another one like it to buy for a cheaper price have you? What's going to happen when this one goes away? Then what?
