Wait a little while and Deafautotech will probably chime in - if he doesn't, page him, he's a Mopar tech.

it seems to me that as an auto tech you will always need SAE sizes sooner or later
I would just pick up a basic set of them from sears or get them used

well i am here! all right, you will need most of Metric sockets and wrenches. ratcheting wrenches are very recommend to do... well you will need most of basic tools to work on chrysler, jeep, and dodge... unless you have specialist way like only engine, transmission, or suspension tech?? if specialist tech, you need special tools for the way what you work on.

BIG difference is if you work as General technician which work on all kind of jobs like brakes, transmission, engine, and etc Then you need many tools to do.

i am recommend you to buy most of 1/4dr and 3/8dr like shallow, semi sockets, deep sockets, flex socket or swivel sockets, impact swivel sockets, etc....... you will need 1/2dr sockets 13mm to 25mm shallow and deep sockets and 30mm 12pts for transmission output shaft nut on chrysler and jeep that use NAG1 transmissions. you need 32, 35, 36mm axle sockets, 1 11/16 socket for Dodge Ram (2500 and 3500) on front axle nuts.

Some of older models like jeep are use some of SAE tools... so you still need mostly of basic tools like hand tools and pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, and etc....

there is too many tools that you might need one but i already had everything what i need to work on...

let me know if you have more questions... i will go back to Chrysler dealership again!! but my work just closed down chrysler dealership and transferred me to next door as mercury and Lincoln dealership. i tried to find other job at Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge dealerships but they seem like freeze hiring right now at Indiana...

It depends on what you're going to be doing. I would recommend having 3/8 to 7/8 and 7mm to 19mm to cover about 80-90% of most common sizes or at least get you started. My sae stuff doesn't get used much except for the 3/8 and 9/16. Most everything is metric.

Chryslers are horrible for using SAE and metric. Our 02 Rams are the worst. There is no rhyme or reason to what is standard and what is metric on the motor.

Yeah, I have an '03 Ram with the mighty Cummins, so I see both metric and SAE. Now the wife's Explorer? Metric. I don't think I've come across any SAE on it.

Ok, I've everything in metric sizes. Seems that I have to buy Wrenches, sockets and all that stuff in SAE...****...that are 500 Euro ~800$ for that....

@Deafautotech
I would work on all systems...specially the electrical stuff (hell, I never worked on these cars before).
The Employer meant "we will hire 2 people and make an competion who is the best one can stay"

Can you give me some good suggestions about these cars? Special Issues???
standard problems with the electrical system?
Chrysler PT Cruiser Dodge RAM and Caliber???

I've got a Jeep Wrangler and, like everyone else said about Jeep/Chrysler, they use both all over the vehicle. Also, you MUST have TORX to work on these, I'm guessing you already do, but just giving you a heads up.
