I have my HF 56" box loaded up and I noticed that the drawer slides are bending a little bit on some drawers. I'm not sure if it came that way or if I have them overloaded? I know the box is rated for around 3400 pounds, but how much per drawer? Search was no help...

Thanks in advance for your help!

The weight ratings per drawer are on the HF website in the PDF user manual download for the box. I don't have it in front of me, but you can find it there.

Over 1/2 of that weight rating is not divided between the drawers, but rather to cover the weight of the box on top and any hanging cabinets you add on the side.

Thanks, I'll go check it out. I took out all the unnecessary tools and any doubles and moved them into a different box. IMO, I didn't have it overloaded. :dunno:

Checked the manual and it says 154-220 pounds per drawer. No way I have that much weight in each drawer.

Thanks again for the help!!

I actually just loaded my 44" this weekend. When loading the top drawer with all my sockets and ratchets I first had all the sockets towards the front, and my ratchets in the rear. The sockets are VERY closely arranged on the rails, so the socket/sq-in density is pretty high. I didn't notice any bending, but I did feel it was putting excessive strain on the slides as they weren't as easy to open/close. I moved the sockets to the rear and the ratchets/extensions up front, effectively moving the center of gravity to the rear so there would be less leverage on the slides. This appeared to help. I didn't actually weigh my contents, but the upper drawer on the 44" is rated at 80lbs, I would say I was approaching that, but not likely above it by much if at all.

That makes sense, I also have the 56" and the only drawer I can imagine getting anywhere close to that maximum is the top drawer, sockets and ratchets are heavy.

My socket drawer (top drawer) alone is around 300lbs. I haven't had any issues with bending or slide stress. Everything in the drawer is stacked 2-3 levels deep with cases of sets.

The bottom drawer is around the same amount of weight as well with no issues.

John, which way are they bending? Are they canting in at a slant like "/ \" from the frot view. Or are they bending along the length of the slide front to back, as in the entire drawer is tilted towards the front?

The former I wouldn't worry about too much, the latter you may have some issues. Is it the slides themselves that are bending or the fit between the slide and the box frame?

The whole drawer isn't tilted or anything and closes fine, I just notice that the rails seem to be bent a little like this "/" on some drawers. I'll try and get some pictures tomorrow if I can remember.

Nobody ever does but it helps keeping the drawers stiff w/ using higher capacity slider

Snap-On KRL box are like 200lbs each drawer and Vidmar are like 400lbs each drawer

Top box specs. Bottom box with the top four drawers on both sides being the same as the top. Dk about the bottom two on the left and bottom right on the bottom box.

Those two use a drastically different drawer slide system though. The Vidmar/Lista/other industrial cabinet design is far superior to most tool boxes IMHO.

Well, I wouldn't worry about it too much. There really isn't much you can do to fix it. Most slides will do that to some degree. Downside is that it may exacerbate wear on the slides as you are putting a moment about the slide it really wasn't designed for. It looks like you do have it loaded pretty well with all those wrenches on edge?

Is there much wobble to the drawer that would indicate the slides are loose? Your options are pretty much keep it cleaned, lubed and use as is or reduce the load in the drawer.

Thanks buddy!! There isn't too much weight, even around the edges. I'd say most drawers are 75 pounds or less. Socket drawer is probably around 150+ pounds (2 slides) and my large wrench drawer is around 100 pounds or so. I already removed all unnecessary tools to another box.

Actually....KRL's are 250 Per Drawer with Single Slides, 500 per drawer when equipped with double slides. The large Wide "Socket Drawer" on my 722 and all other deep wide drawers come factory with double slides...and provisions are punched into all 4" and deeper drawers for double slides.

Pics plz. If my box starts to fall apart in a year I am going to flip. I might just start keeping my tools in dirty old cardboard boxes.

HF exaggerated their drawer ratings? No, they couldn't possibly do that... :lol_hitti
