I've been searching Craigslist pretty regularly and haven't found a bench worth buying yet....

does anyone have any suggestions on where to find or buy a nice sturdy bench for light work? I've seen some guys on here that make and sell benches, but i imagine shipping is outrageous so thats out of the question.

Lowes has a decent one. $199 for black and $299 for stainless. It has peg board and two roller bearing drawers. Has a lift up drawer up top and electrical outlets on the side. Also has a large shelf underneath.

Here in NC there are auctions where you can buy nice steel commercial benches for under a $100.00 and a lot of times they will have a vice on them. Check auctionzip for your area. Find a garage or dealership going out.

There aren't really any garages or dealers goin out in the area.

That said, can you post some info on your truck? I've probably seen it around.

Thanks for the input!

haha I've thought about building one, but I have so much other stuff going on at the moment, the bench really isn't at the top of my "to-do" list

I had a 98 12valve cummins and literally just traded it 2 weeks ago. It was pretty wicked for a 98. I started doing motor work and eventually did enough to destroy the input shaft, ******, and clutch. So i bought a bulletproof ******, a street dual disc, and a billet input shaft.....BUTTTT while doing the ****** job i found out the motor could be turned over by hand, and it had blow by like i've never seen before so i figured it was time to part with it....

Was it black? Reg cab long bed? Single stack? Looked like it was set up for pulling?

No stacks either...never been a fan of stacks. I had a full 4" into a 6" tip coming out in front of the rear tire

Get two sawhorses and a piece of 3/4" plywood. If you're just doing light work, that will get you by until you have the time to build a proper table. Easily portable and you can disassemble it in 3 seconds and stash it away when you need more room.

Build one using pallet rack as a base. Mine has 1/8" steel over 2"x10" lumber as the top and only took about a half an hour to put together.
