Gear wrench flex head... Reversible switch or flip around wrenches?

Just wondering if anyone has an preference on either of these and why?

The reverse switch always breaks and gets stuck... Flip around flex heads are good though

Both.

For your first set, get the reversibles. On sale at advance auto parts for $29.99. Reason being, if you run a flex head against something, you'll cuss and swear getting the wrench back out.

Well ain't that two conflicting opinions lol. But really? I've never heard/seen the switches getting stuck or broke. Pic?

I meant the reversible's have issues and the non reversible (Flip it over to change direction) have been fine. I'll have to dig out the wrench and take a pic.

I have a set of the flip around and haven't had a problem yet. Have had them for 2 years and used them a lot.

No I meant I said get the reversible first and you said stay away from them. Lol.

I have a 100 dollar sears gift certificate which is why I ask... The price difference of that set to the sears set is pretty drastic... I might have to wait until fathers day

Well then in that case I would look at the XL flex cross force wrenches. $79.99 but I feel they are very nice, in store at least.

In all honesty, i hate flex head ratcheting wrenches, they never felt right when i used them and were immediately on my "uncomfortable to use" list. Now as for the reversible or non reversible, i appreciate the "reliability" of the non-reversible, but be honest with yourself, do you plan on putting the wrench under heavy load? do you plan on using it daily? do you plan on keeping it clean? (not sure if it's important, but i like to keep anything with moving parts at least non-gritty) If you answered no to the first two questions, get whatever you are most comfortable with, if you ever brake a wrench you are a few minutes away from a replacement at all times.

I'll probably get the flip over ones.... And then I can take my set of straight non flex head ones home.... Or the other way around, not sure yer.....But I have I wait until Father's Day for the deal anyways. Any other suggestions on what to spend 100 dollar gift certificate at sears on?

Advanced auto has the gearwrench half off right now (reversable) you will not beat that price. Id buy them and use the gift card for something else.

I have both sets and grab the reversables first. Dont really like bow the nons are flat.

I have both and prefer the switchable. Hate when reaching in some long dark hole to get at a nut/bolt only to fish out the wrench again and flip it.

I'll have to take a pic when I get home, but I have a Blue Point ratcheting 13mm wrench with a broken selector lever...

Duralast doesn't make "flip" ratchet wrenches?

Reversible.

I've seen several cases where wrecheing down on a nut has left non-reversing wrenches stuck in a situation where they cannot be pulled off the fatener thus are trapped.

Both situations were Blue Points and both were cut off with air saws and turned into the SO driver and new wrenches given in return under warranty. Isn't he sweet.

I own several sets of reversibles and have never had a problem with failure or quality.

My non-reversing are zip-tied together as a set via the closed end and tossed in the "****-box" dwr in my basement tool box.
That shows how my "I" use them.


Buy what ya want, but fear of breakage is NOT a reason why NOT to buy them.
