Ok dig, I'm getting concrete bids and permits and all that good stuff.

I'd like to learn from your thoughts..

What did you wish you had thought of or forgot during your build?

Like I almost forgot I wanted a natural gas line dug and run from the house..

Not "forgotten" per se, but I really wish I could have afforded a taller ceiling.

If you ever intend to get or use a lift 16' is a good start (no, that's not what I have :( ).

under ground conduits: for electric, compressed air, for utility... etc.

electrical outlet(s) at center of shop, on the floor.

check maximum height limit of buildings allowed in your area and make that the height of your shop.

Pot looking anchors in the cement you can place a chain on to winch a car frame back to being straight.

Really think of underground utilities and add extra PVC runs for added upgrade of cable etc.

Mounting points for tools- 2" receiver tube so you could use posts of 2" square tubing with a flange at the bottom to insert into the receiver in the floor. Multiple different tools could be dropped into the 'socket' when you need them. Several along the walls and a few between the stalls would be great.

Extra 220 welder outlets. One that allows you to reach outside the building just in case, given you might be welding.

I will add to this and emphasize, run a couple of EXTRA conduits. They'll be empty, but they are cheap, even if it's just some PVC pipe. Some day, you will want to run something else out there and those empty conduits will be just waiting for you.

My brother-in-law did this and even put some string down the pipes first so he could pull whatever through them if needed. Nothing is as bad as trying to get an additional cable or wire through a conduit that already has some other cables or wires in it. You can even use one trench for all of the conduits.

And building the garage taller for a future lift. I built what I could and paid cash, but I could have easily borrowed a little bit. or spent a little bit more and went with 12' ceilings. Back at the time though, money was a little tight, and I could slide out from under a car, hop up, drop back down and slide under again. Sadly....today, it's hell just to get back up if I get down on the floor. I also wish at the time that I had planned on having equipment in the garage like a mill and a lathe. When i built the garage, I figured I would be working until I was 67 years old, and never planned that I would be on Disability. I was fortunate enough to be able to buy a mill and a lathe though to tinker on, but running conduit and wire across the ceilings, down the walls, etc. would be something that I would have rather had hidden.
