Having a hellova time finding anything close. Need a 7" or 178mm seal/bearing driver. Anyone know of any, especially that won't bankrupt a person? Closest I found was a "jumbo" set on Northern but they only went to 6.5" and the set was around $500.

might need to improvise, do you have access to a brake lathe and will any of its adapters work?

I recently needed a seal driver to install a race that was a lot bigger then anything i had. I ended up grinding down the old race and used it to drive the new one in.

Buddy has a lathe, haven't come up with a piece of metal or AL big enough to make one though. I am only needing it to put a seal in, actually two of them. An old race might work I'll have to look into that.

Try federal mogul. They make them for big rigs. I got mine from finditparts.com

Got a set of torches, a welder, and a 4.5" grinder? Cut a circle out of 5/16" steel plate and grind smooth. Weld a piece of 1" pipe to it (you pick the length). Thread a cap onto the end of the pipe. Beat mercilessly. Cost less than $10.

I've used large PVC pipe fittings with a big rubber hammer to install big honkin' seals several times. The plastic in the larger diameters is VERY solid and sturdy.

Not sure if there's one the right OD, though. But perhaps a trip to the plumbing department with seal in hand is in order.

UHMW (Plastic) worked for me, 1" thick rough cut with a band saw turned down a step for the center of seal, drilled a hole and added a rod!
