I figured id post this when i was just in the begining of my build, i needed about 12 trees removed well i put up an add craigslist for free fire wood never thought id have so many responses, the area was pretty much wide open so the drops were easy, i picked a father /son team who signed a waiver in case they killed them selves and with my help removed all the open drop trees and took 98% of the wood pretty good deal everybody was happy .

I love saving $$$ like that!. We had to change out some big old tractor tires, and the fee to dispose of them was $15 each at the time. I set them out front, and they were taken by morning! Some kid has a new sandbox, and I saved $30.

When I did the demolition on my old garage, I got a lot of use from Craigslist. I sold my old trusses for $200. I had two guys come and haul away the old concrete floor and footings for free, they wanted it to fill a ditch.

I gave away some bedroom closet storage shelving units in the free section of Craigslist about a year ago. I posted it for free and withing 60 seconds I had four people wanting to pick them up. I guess people just hit refresh all day looking for stuff.

We had a rotting shed that wasn't worth saving, at least to me. It was going to cost me for a dumpster to dispose of it plus labor to tear it down. I posted it for free on CL and had calls within minutes. It was gone the next day and the guy was delighted to get it. :)

I've had stuff I couldn't give away. Left it out over night with a "For Sale" on it, it was gone the next morning.

Gotta love Craigslist. My two best finds: 1) used challenger Midrise lift Model #64000- $250 bucks (Painted her up and she looks like brand new.) 2) craftsman 1/2" drive electric impact gun (like brand new)- $30.

Thanks for this post! I've been looking to build, or buy a welding table...but the $$$$ cost has been postponing a purchase. I use Craigslist all the time, but never thought to check for a welding table. Well, last weekend, after reading this post, I did a search, found a table. Drove over the next day to pick it up! The $140 seemed a little steep at first, but after getting a quote for materials to build my own...I was over $400! Without figuring my labor! I still need to add some caster wheels, and steal,...I mean, borrow some other ideas from the guys on this site! THANKS!!!

I use it all the time,it has helped me both ways.I sold my Harley and El Camino on it(not low dollar stuff either)and bought my Jeep winter beater there also. It's not hard to spot the scammers, just use a little common sense.
As for labour,I have picked up a couple of jobs on it,and by posting wanted ads, found framing and roofing crews for the garage. Now if I could find some full time work for myself,I would be posting for more help to get this garage done(need cash right now more than labour)...

Do you have Freecycle in the States?
I have had three metal cabinets - two with shelves - for the cost of my petrol, and got rid of a load of stuff I didn't want and that would have cost me money for the local council to collect.

I was looking for a file cabinet. Found a guy on CL with 2 Hon brand 4 drawers. He wanted $75 each. They are $500 new. I told him I only need one. He says he wants them gone so give me $100 for both. I said OK. Took them home and re-listed one on CL for $125. Sold it it a week for $75. So I ended up with a practically new lateral file for $25 plus my time.

I also got a 100' roll of 1" plastic waterline to run from the house to the garage on CL the other day for $10.

CL is very popular. There was a thread on here recently to list your four favorite web-sites. I think CL was on every one.

We do have Freecycle here as well, along with a couple other web boards for free or bartered goods. Craigslist has free and barter sections too.

QFT CL is a godsend for one's junk that may be another's treasure.

I work in IT and our schools/thrift stores won't accept CRT's even if they are nice 17-19" black ones. I had 60 or so to unload so I posted on CL. I did have to deal with quite a few calls looking that I pay them to remove them, but finally I found a guy that showed up with a flatbed and loaded them all up then took them away to send to various countries where our USA junk is like gold.

His gig is a pretty good one, he travels and scuba dives for free for his elbow grease and logistics.

Craigslist is too creepy- seems like it's just the preferred hangout of child predators. I don't get the people that use it.

Sorry, but a legitimate site needs to require people to register and have pre-verified address and payment info. It needs to keep the transaction as impersonal as possible. That's why eBay works so much better that CL.

I just got a freecycle deal today 1989 Dodge Ram 150 needs a tuneup and oil change and a paintjob wouldnt hurt it since it has late 80's Chrysler rash all over it but for free I wont complain while I am painting it or letting the kids drive it and not wear out Mo's mini van :D. Paint kit from Smart Shoppers $60.00 for good old auto enamel plus another $80.00 for primer sealer :D.
