I picked up this 1/3 hp motor off ebay for $6.50 plus shipping $30. Anyway it runs solid just needs a new set of bearing and some paint and it will be ready to be put on my Craftsman Drill Press 103.23640. Im in the final stretch and am looking for ideas on how to clean up the metal ring that goes around the center of the motor. It has some surface rust that id like to clean up and make shine again. The issue is I am at a loss about how to clean it up. It has a striped look to it and would like to keep it that way but Im guessing itll have to go along with the rust. Which is fine in the end as long as it shines... Suggestions?
The first two pics are what it looks like now and the last it what it originally looked like (that area was hidden on the underside)

6.50? you ****, but they gotcha on shipping. Still a good price though. BE CAREFUL cleaning that up, that "jeweling" can be rubbed away. I haven't figured out a way of cleaning that so I'm teaching myself how to machine or jewel metal.

IDK how to get a complete shine on that band, the jeweling can be fussy. But, I've had good luck with Nevr-Dull and a LOT of elbow grease. Make sure you "go with the grain" so that you don't mar the surface with cross scratches.

Nevr-Dull, hand buff - Nevr-Dull, hand buff - Nevr-Dull, hand buff - Nevr-Dull, hand buff - until complete, or fed up.
