Older 10'' proto 5449 1/2 inch drive. Appears to be well used, but the ratcheting mechanism sounds good and works fine. There is some grinding below the shifting lever.

Reads "5449 PROTO MFD. U.S.A."

Asking $15 plus shipping. Trades for older craftsman stuff!

that used to be common..........if you have ever got a ratchet stuck someplace and you needed to reverse it to get it out you'll understand why.

I'm dense. Can you explain this to me? Are you saying for a situation where there's not enough clearance to get your thumb to the back of the ratchet, so they would reverse it so you could flick the selector from the front of the ratchet?
