Awesome.

I love the Garage Journal. In a little more than a half hour James had a ton of examples to choose from. Very cool.

Since we are on the topic, does anyone have a good close up image scan of this one?

The Long C logo is proving to be a bit of a challenge to etch.

The unetched text and lines are disappearing into the etched area in the surrounding part of the shield. The text and lines are really crisp and sharp under a magnifying glass, but to the naked eye they just vanish.

I've done a test print with the text lines and shield reversed in colour and this resilts in a reversed etch, and it seems to work better, but I'm not happy with either result.

Time for a bit of a rethink.

Bottom "reversed out" oval if going for clarity.
Top if for style and screaming "Craftsman".

Your call.

I'm sure you'll end up with something with which you're happy... looks like you've got a good start.

Would love to have a "vintage logo" set of glasses but I think it would be cooler to pick an era and then have one Craftsman, one Snappy, Williams, Bonney, Proto, Sherman-Klove, etc... probably have some copyright issues if you went to sell them though :(

This. I would stick with the top style, I would even consider getting rid of the "Guaranteed highest quality" wording and just have a solid oval with the lines.

Thanks for your kind words. Drop me a PM if you'd like any more information.

I've still got the 1927 oval Craftsman logo to create, and then the set should be complete.

Just as a teaser, here's what I'm working on at the moment.

It's still got a bit of work to be done, but it's coming along nicely. Needs a white border around the blacksmith and some text on the horizontal bands, a bit of detail editing, and it'll be ready for a test etch. I've also started work on the artwork for Proto.

Finally got one to look reasonable. This one produced the biggest pile of rejects yet in this project. Here's the result of many design tweaks and 6 etch runs.

The photograph doesn't do it justice. I'll need to set up my mini photographic studio to photograph it properly.

I'd be careful about offering these for public sale.

Unless you want to receive a cease and desist.
I am very careful about that. I have offered nothing for public sale that wasn't something for which I held the copyright.

The majority of my work has been done as a commission for the copyright/trade mark owners, a proposal piece to show the copyright/trade mark owners, or as a sample/demonstration piece for my own collection.

Currently this project is nothing more than sample/demonstration pieces for my own collection, and as part of an attempt to get back in the swing of things and re-hone my skills after the LASER engraver had been packed away and unavailable for over a year and a half.

That being said, I have no problems accepting commissioned work on a case by case individual basis.

Wow!! What kind of tools or other things would I be able to possibly "gift" to you in exchange for 6 of these in my mail box??
