Gas Line Question

I plan to make some changes to my drawings for my in-work garage build and wonder if anyone has information of hanging a gas line on the side of my existing garage just above the ground. I plan to use black pipe from the meter along the wall (60') to a point where if will dive under ground and stub up next to the new shop. From there it would elbow into the wall and continue to the stub out for a Mr. Heater.

Is there a minimum distance up from the ground?

Is there a minimum distance the gas line needs to be burried under ground?

Is there a vinyl wrap requirement to cover the black pipe?

Understand there may be differences between locations...

I live in Washington state, so the codes and regulations may be different from where you're at. You should be able to run it above ground at any height. It has to be at least 18 inches underground and everything underground has to be vinyl coated or wrapped with 10mil tape or thicker.

On a side note: I like to use unistrut for supporting the pipe on the wall. Paint any exposed pipe outside, otherwise it will rust quickly and wont look very appealling.

i work for a gas company... 6"-10" above grade any thing below grade is 18" and wrapped with ten mil. tape here in the southwest. enjoy

Thanks for the info, this is what I am looking for. Do you have any idea if this is a local standard, or a plumbing standard, a company standard, or natural gas industry standard?

Be smart ASK your local building Dept. or Local gas Co. Everyone's regulations are different. A lot of gas companies are using plastic gas line. Out of the ground you have to use pipe. CHECK 1st.
