Budget Composite Decking?

I purchased a condo that has an attached 12'x10' deck in the backyard.

The previous owners did not take care of it, so off come the boards and I'm looking to replace the wood with composite material.

Is there a decent composite decking material available?

I have a Home Depot, Lowe's, and Ace Hardware stores locally if that helps narrow done the choices. I would like to purchase from one of these stores.

I'm open to suggestions!

I got the ultradeck fusion (Menards but maybe others carry it too) in 2006 and it has held up well. That being said...it was pricey.

budget is going to be pressure treated..

not sure where you are located, but check out craigslist and ebay.. some places are advertising bulk buy stuff on there, one of those places might cut you a deal on something...

You don't have a real lumberyard nearby?

Ace isn't going to have composite decking and you really limit your choices with HD and Lowes. If those are the only places available, go to the stores and see what they have available instead of hoping someone on the internet knows. They don't all carry the same products.

we all have home depot's, lowes and ace hardware nearby. Put your location in your profile and you might get better ideas of places that may be local to you.

I'm starting to budget for a 8x14 deck and the word "budget" and "composite" do not belong in the same sentence. Pressure treat, picture frame edging and Behr stain are on my list.

I put down Trex almost 18 years ago when it first came out. Still looks great and zero maintenance in that whole time. 10x12 ain't big enough to be too painful getting composite decking down. I hate pressure treated lumber its slick like snot when wet and always shrinks and warps plus you got maintenance and splinters when it ages.
Just find a composite you like and be done.
Some composite decking requires joist spacing closer than PTL. You might have to add joists after ripping up the old deck.

i'm a fan of fiberon horizon. it's a little more than trex, but is really nice stuff visually as well as to work with. trex is perfectly good too. none of it is inexpensive, that's for sure.

keep your eyes open for sales and manufacturer rebates.

this^^

..composite is several times more expensive than PT lumber....there are several threads here...

composite, especially the "budget" stuff that is only 2 or 3 times PT, is not very strong and is quite hot to the feet or legs when you sit or walk on it.

We just built a composite deck with the hidden fastener system. The decking, 5 1/4 x 1 1/4 x 20' were 60 bucks each. The fastener clip system with screws was 500 bucks. 1 dollar/sq'

Composite decking, courtesy of Craigslist at my place. The seller even delivered it, and I still came out somewhere around half of retail. People are always changing their minds, not finishing projects, etc. Sometimes surplus materials end up being liquidated.

I haven't priced the basic Trex in years, and I know a lot of people on here don't like it, but it tended to be cheaper than most others. My experience, both working with it and living with it for several years, was excellent.
