Wilton vise made in Italy ???

Found this vise in a local dutch ad:

On the vise itself there's a text:

Made in <W-G> Italy
Wilton - Glisem ??? SHA Milano

I am not interested in buying this vise as I am restoring two USA vises already (and that's going way too slow).
But it sure looks like a Wilton.
Jaws are 6 inch (15 cm).
I did not know these vise where produced here in EU.

Is the swivel base missing?

a lot of Wilton vises were made without swivels, but I've never seen one with a Made in Italy stamped in cast on the side.

just curious how much that vise is because it might be rare? also if you do see it in person can you pull out the dynamic slide and wipe off the grease on the bottom of the slide so you might see a production date when it was made?

by the way if you are having any issues taking apart or putting together your vise PM me or post pictures on the Vise thread so somebody can help you. if they are US made vises you have a chance of getting a lot of help and if made over there i know a few guys that are over there that are GJ members and very handy too.

Gert, thanks for sharing that Italian Wilton, can tell it is a different casting, look how big the anvil is. If that Italian vise is close you might want to pick it up. It would be a good one to have, I bet you can find a base for it if you wanted one.
How is that C2 you picked up in the Netherlands. Please post a few pic's when you get it finished. I seem to remember you was very close to being done.

Hi Kevin, I am really close to painting. I should have added more updates, sorry. I was about to drill holes in the C2 for the pipe jaws. But I just could not drill in that vise. Made some metal blocks that fit the room behind the pipe jaws which work like a charm. Also made some pins that hold the back and finally found a dustcap that seals the back. It's ready to paint. I'll add some photo's to the other thread.

You wouldn't per chance be interested in buying it and shipping it would you? It would definitely be worth the effort on your part! (ie: $$)

Gert, Look forward to seeing your finished C2, curious to how you mounted the pipe jaws with out a set screw. Always looking for new ideas. I want to see your dust cap to.

Maybe one of us can help you on the swivel base for your new Italian vise. Post more pictures and possibly dimensions across the bottom of the vise to see what swivel base you need if you want a swivel base.

That is a "Machinist Looking Vise"...with nearly 6" jaws...but it's way too light to be a "European Wilton 600"...more like a 400N with 6" jaws...

The new Wilton 600N weighs 143 pounds...

Your's is less than half that weight...

I'm resurrecting this thread to post pics of my Italian Wilton. It weighs a bit over 20 lbs.

Is there a date stamp on the key way (bottom of slide of dynamic moving jaw)? great looking vise and not too common at least over here and I can't say I've seen any members of Italy showing off any over there either. nice find!!!

It's dated 10-63 on the key insert.

I weighed it and it's 22lbs.

By the way, I have another similar size, but non-swivel, European vise here. My grandfather shipped it to us from the Netherlands back in the 60's.

I don't think NL had much of a vise industry then, so it could be German. The only marking is "MM" on the rear casting. My Google searching has not turned up anything under that logo.

I'm attaching some photos. Has anyone seen one like this? Maybe some of the Dutch or German members recognize it.

since your other MM vise sort of looks like a wilton bullet who knows but it might actually been an early version that Wilton's original owner copied. He is known for working for YORK (company in Czechoslovakia) just prior to WWII and moving to the USA and starting Wilton vise company over here with a patent of a vise that was very close to York's.

just my opinion, but i'd keep both those vises cause they are both pretty rare and especially with your family history.
