The Coke sign has found a new home. Perfect fit, Don!

I couldn't help but notice some bling peeking out. How's the '50 COE coming?

Hi Don, Those lines with the tape look nice and straight very crisp, looks like you have done it a couple of times maybe. The base sounds a bit heavy but you probably bench more than that in reps i bet:Mr.T:. Everything you own looks well built which in turn usually means it's heavy. looking good Don keep up the good work. Lee

Yes Lee
Most everything you see here is old and made in the U.S.A.
That makes it well built and heavy

don

Nice work and heavy duty system to last for a long time to come. Can't wait to see the end result.
I need to get to work on my Goodyear sign as well. No painting for me just straightening it out some what.
The old truck sitting up there looks like it belongs in a shot in the movie Cars.

Thanks ak
These old pole signs are made to last thats for sure
The way the sign frames the COE it does look cartoonish

The big coke sign gives the diner a touch more class I think

The COE is begging for some attention but these Damn signs keep taking my time. Maybe next week I can get back and make a little progress on it.

Thanks for checking in every one

Well this project is closing out for me
I got the pole painted today and the sign frame cleaned up

I think that I will leave the pole in the booth until monday to let the paint cure so when I try to move it and stand it up the blanket that I will wrap it in won't leave an impression in the fresh paint.

Is that Texaco sign going outside?

Bugthug, I just saw this on the previous page. Don wouldn't think of having all his hard work exposed to the elements again. That might mean that it would need to be repainted in 50 years. Now, it can last 100 years!

... Next will be the black paint then the pole will be mounted to the garage floor and the sign frame will be painted black and bolted to the pole...

Beautiful work on that sign post. Sure didn't make them like that in the ol' days

Wingnut is right on. The pole is going in by the 30s garage across from the other Texaco round poll sign

This is the sign that came with the poll. It is hanging outside on the workshop

And this is the new sign going on the post

Don, as I continue to watch all of the work you do I am wondering if you ever have time to sleep?? None of your projects are small undertakings and your place is huge so seems like you would have 2 or 3 part time guys to help you at all times.;)

Well Mark
It's almost 2:30 A.M. can't sleep tonite so I came out to see what is going on around here.

Yes this place is larger than some and I do have one young man that I call our grounds keeper working for me. Ever since the gardener quit. I pick him up every morning monday thru friday at 7:30 a.m. and he does all the yard work and most of my "honey does" so that I can stay focused on my projects.
I am also pretty good at putting my friends that drop by to work for the day.
So I guess you could say that I have some help.

As always Don, beautiful work!

Ody.

Thanks Ody
I'm pretty happy with the way the post is turning out.
My wife saw it tonite and started to chuckle, I asked her what was so funny? She said the post looks like I painted it like one of my old tow trucks!!!
They were red, black and silver.

I will be standing the pole up today or tomorrow
I thought of putting the texaco letters down the pole but didn't have a good way to get the correct size letters

Yes I have a few more projects on the waiting list and the sun machine is one of them

Looking good. Are you planning on installing this inside or outside?
Also I have been trying to figure out the era of my Goodyear sign that is slightly different to yours. Yours has the rounded edges. I am guessing yours is the 40's-50's and sharper edges are in the 60's and idea?

That sign has quite the personality and history from the looks of it (I like)

Great work on the Texaco sign! Can't wait till you get back to your COE.
Love the space you have to work on all your projects.
Thought I would send you this ad for some Sun equipment available North of the border.

Thanks for the link to the sun equipment

Thanks. I am going to take some of the bends out and straighten the edges, but I may keep the rust and wear spots for the look that I am going for.
Your new sign and post look great in its location.
The Kaiser sign at our local antique seller sold to a construction guy that moved to California. The wife was going to get that sign but chose the Goodyear instead. Those are nice signs but it was expensive.

Now I have to find places to hang the 2 signs that I took down to put up the pole and sign[/QUOTE]

I know just the place Don but i don't think you will like my idea.

It starts with the letter A and ends with the letter A. Or other wise known as down under.

Sorry Don and apologies in advance, but I just had to comment on this one, Lee has no room left for any more signs and nice stuff so it will have to be delivered to Victoria.

Great job on the sign, in fact a great job on your place period and the envy of many, I have enjoyed following your thread.

Those Goodyear signs all look great regardless of their condition

My Kaiser sign was a good find at the pomona swap meet even though it is a bit rough!!

At first I thought that I would send the signs to Sidney and let you guys fight over who would get the sign BUT After pricing out the cost to ship them I decided to look in the garage one more time and I found a spot for them. Sorry :3gears:

You'r going to need a bigger garage!

Been thinking the same thing. How ever I think that selling a few undone projects may be a better option. :headscrat:headscrat:headscrat

Well Don as a TEXACO conaisseur :p I must say job well done  :)

Thanks Sunbimmer
I thought of you while working on this project (All Good)

Just checking in to see what your up to Don as i know you don't just laze around all day, have you had a chance to get back on the coe or are you still trying to hang that other sign up (would of been easier to send it over mate). If all works out the wife and i are looking at heading over on the 16th October for a month and if it's ok with you i would love to stop in and shake your hand in person Don.

I have been traveling around a bit these last few weeks
and Yes I have found a little time to work on the COE but haven't made any significant headway so nothing to post yet

If you and your lady make it over in october please let me know I would love to host you a party

Pomona Swap meet is Saturday... Time for more signs (hehehe).

Yea I know I missed it I was in Utah visiting my kids and grand kids
Just got a new arrival another girl so went up to meet the little angel

However I did get in a little pickin time in up there.
Found a neat pot belly stove, a spring display for the old garage and a porcelain meat scale along with a couple of rail road oil cans and copper fire extinguishers.

I spent the evening sand blasting an old sign can that says Ice cream and a couple parts of the English phone booth.

Congrats, Grandpa on the new addition!

That Ice Cream sign looks nice now, can't wait to see the end results. Will this need a new parlor to hang it in?

I'm not going to play favorites. You don't get it either!!
The COE is on the back burner again I spend a couple hours a week on it and haven't made any postable progress for a while.

Congrats, Grandpa on the new addition!

Thanks the new addition gives us 19 kids to buy Christmas presents for :rocker:

The Ice cream sign is set to go on top of the country store where the coke sign hangs now and the coke sign will join the others on the outside of the game room
