Anyone have experience, good or bad, with a/c leak detection kits using dye? Or any a/c leak kits period?

This is what I was looking at

I recognize the brand but that's about it, are kits like this even worth it. If yes, that's probably about the price range i'd like to stay at, or below.

That kit should work.

I do not have that exact kit, but find them useful for discreet AC leaks (leaky o-rings, evap leak, etc...)

If I were in the market for an AC dye leak detector kit I would consider the same one you are looking at. Hardest part is keeping the dye in the bottle and not all over the case lol

I have a tracerline kit that came with dye for water based fluid, dye for oil based fluid, and A/C dye. Has a light and cool yellow glasses. I've used all the dyes before and it's worked pretty good. Comes in handy with hard to find leaks.

Is there a particular brand to go for as far as glasses and UV lights?

I have used dyes in refrigerants before. Effective, but in all likelihood, you'll need to spend some time with an inspection mirror and a flashlight.

I use mopar ac dye, well because I work at a mopar dealer so I got piles of it, I use a sunlite UV flashlight http://powerledlighting.com/shop/in..._id=66&zenid=f93b461c144c51026695a46df376f0e0 to find external leaks. Most mopars leak from the evaporator so if you don't have an external leak it's pretty damn likely you will have an evaporator job to quote. I think I remember seeing lights and glasses even at autozone and advance auto parts.

O didn't know that, makes sense though.

I've seen those light+glasses kits in the parts stores but the fact that they were so cheap threw me off. Maybe that kit I linked to is too top of the line for me anyway, I'll see what I can find in the mid-range.
