Hello all, I have a Black hawk SJ 2 jack. It leaks fluid, but does work. Is this worth rebuilding? Not sure how old it is or if I can even get the parts to do it. I know it has been around the farm along time! Here is the tag on it if that is helpful.

Lol at $69 dollars for that kit... Shop around OP.

Might be worthwhile to inspect your jack prior to buying a kit, just in case something is mucked up inside the cylinder wall etc... Stuff happens.

I guess to answer your question's, Yes if the overall condition of the jack is in good shape its a viable jack to repair. The problem is that the current Blackhawk doesn't support the model anymore, so any hard parts that you might need can be pricey in NOS or even Used in some cases. How are the casters? Any heavy rust/pitting on the main Ram?

The castors and everything else is in good shape. If I fill it with fluid it works and does well. We use it to jack up the tractors it holds them up while we put stands under them. It will hold fluid and pressure then over time it leaks out as it sits unused.

My guess and strictly a guess without having it here in front of me, is that the tank nut seal (seals the ram) has failed and is allowing reservoir oil and/or oil that is bypassing the main ram seal under load is leaking. In all Honesty though, your jack is probably suffering in all sealing areas due to its age and is due for a reseal. Assuming that the jack is original and hasn't been previously serviced and there isn't a issue with reservoir not sealing between the base/tank nut.

Vampire thread alert! My Blackhawk SJ2 jack, in regular use/abuse since 1975, is finally becoming unusable, leakdown is now too fast for the jack to be useful, even for tire changing. I worked welding jacks and frame machines at Blackhawk, Baraboo, WI in the early 70s.
I see Lazzard's with a kit for about $36. Anyone tried it?
Also this .blackhawkparts.com/sj2-repair-kit-details.html at $42
