One of my garage sale customers came back by with a tool box and some tools for sale/trade. I saw the hand made/riveted box and had to have it, I guess the highlights would be the CP Impact, 15" Diamalloy and Armstrong Speeder, there are some Thorsen sockets Wizard Vise Grips and other misc U.S.A.

Found a guy that has two barns and a garage full of "stuff". Kind of a low budget American Pickers place. Only had a half an hour, but will be going back.

An LED can light. Need to find a 12v power supply to light er up.

A fluorescent desk lamp that still works. Needs a new cord. Don't like to plug things in with bare wires exposed, but had to see!

Little Trimo pipe wrench with patent date of 1916.

And my favorite, a Clayton & Lambert blowtorch. Looking forward to tearing it down and rebuilding it. I'm hoping it's in good enough shape to fire up!

The way I read it, you had been allured by a "SOLD" box and succumbed to its allure.

Stopped at an "estate sale" on the way to NAPA. Yeah....estate sale my ***. It was 1 bay of the garage full of knick knacks and xmas ornaments.
Asked if there were any tools and the wife said the husband was taking them when they moved. Then. The husband come over and hands me an oil drain pan with some tools and says "take em they're free".
Ended up with a set of US made torx drivers t15-T30 a unmarked 1/4" spinner handle and 2 pair of pliers.
pyjuhy9e.jpg

Also some chinese shrink tube and a pos chinese spinner handle and 3/8 ratchet. Those 2 will go in the pile of loaner/modifiable tools.

Just found this thread after joining a few weeks back looking for LIFT ideas. (on the way :D )

Had a fire a few years back and lost a big ol JET 13x40 Lathe that I used all the time. After insurance paid off (never be under insured guys!) I began crusing CL looking for a replacement and found this lathe. Way better than a chinese jet.

It was $2500 but came with 6 boxes of tooling and about every known accs. you could get for it. Grinding head to 4 jaw and on and on.

I live in Nor Cal and happen to be in So Cal where it was (simi valley) and it barely fit into my Dmax for the 400 mile trip home.

FBJR: isn't that an Austrian or German made lathe? a friend of mine owns one and raves about his and he is almost 80 and uses his almost every day still for some little or big project he has.

nice find and at that price you probably won't have any trouble getting your money back if you ever decide to sell it. i bet the gas mileage wasn't as good on the way home as getting there to pick it up. i'm betting the smile will have a hard time leaving your face after you get that set up and get to using it.:)

Yes, that is an Emco Maximat Super 11 made in Austria with milling head.

It didn't even put a dent in the mileage, Dmax was happy. It was a pain to load though even after breaking it down and my truck has a bed slider.

I have a CNC Wabeco 1210 too that I just referbed from the fire. Came out good but still redoing the CNC.

Here is what they looked like just after the fire. Parts for the mill ran about $3000 less CNC.

I cleaned out my truck this morning and found this guy that didn't get his picture taken yesterday.

I almost forgot i picked it up. :rocker:

Ingersol-Rand Model 107 3/8" air ratchet, light rust but seems to be unused. Price tag reads 77.95

I paid 5.00:D

Can anybody tell me the COO? I can't find anything on the tool but don't know if its USA, Japan or Chinese. Its got to be at least 15years old or more

Hey everyone. Haven't gotten around to making a long winded introduction post yet, but I had some time to share some of my most recent findings so here it goes. I'm absolutely loving this thread BTW. You guys all score some killer stuff! I know that everyone likes pictures so I'll just get right to it.

First yard sale of the season. Don't remember exactly when but it was probably the first nice day. The lady advertised it as "Man Stuff" yard sale with tools. There were a few yard tools and a couple plastic containers of misc junk. Everything below was $3. Some Craftsman and an Empire combination square.

photo5_zps6e0d28fe.jpg

Went to the local FM and got the vise for $4 and the metric DBE wrench (I collect mostly metric tools) along with a broken unmarked 1/4" breaker for $3. The vise will be perfect for light duty work on my Ryobi 10" DP.

photo4_zpsc66fe928.jpg

Then I went and cleaned out some stuff from my Grandma's old house to get ready to sell it. She recently moved in with my Mom since it was getting harder for her to care for herself. Some of the stuff was my Grandfather's, some of the stuff was my Great Grandfather's. Whatever was usable was put right into my boxes but a lot of the stuff is aside until I can get around to properly cleaning it. Ignore the white tray of sockets. Those were some ones I had laying around. Not shown is a nice red/black lower Craftsman box that I've put to good use.

photo2_zps634eb217.jpg

photo3_zps56b41745.jpg

On a side note. For some reason I wanted to find one of these. I knew nothing about them until days before I went up to my Grandma's. I was just looking around on the ebay at PLVMB stuff and I noticed one of these key screwdrivers. Since my Grandpa worked for a plumbing distributor his whole life, I thought there was a chance that I'd find one. Sure enough in the top drawer of the Craftsman box, there it was. I like to think that he left it there on purpose for me to find later in life..

photo1_zps7f5440a2.jpg

These Craftsman sockets were bought on ebay for $15 to trade in and fill some gaps in my trays. They ended up filling some gaps on there own, and the real crappy ones I'll just swap out at the store.

photo2_zps09f7660c.jpg

First estate sale I've ever been to. Showed up at around 11:30 on the first day with my 3 year old daughter. Most of the tools were gone already including a few SO screwdrivers I noticed in the photos. $25 got me the fan, the metal box, most of a letter & number punch set and 3 loose 1/2" drive deep sockets all USA.

photo1_zps537fcae7.jpg

Local thrift store. $5 for the 1/2" Cman breaker. $2 for the rawhide mallet. $10 for the Taiwaneese flare nut wrenches that will end up in my junkyard bag.

photo3_zps5e1c808a.jpg

Another thrift store that's not so local to me. Most of their stuff is **** but I knew the prices would be low so I grabbed almost everything tool related. Lucked out with a few cool pieces. Companion 3/8" ratchet that's going in my junkyard bag along with the Companion 1/4" driver. Some 1/4 & 3/8 Companion sockets, rusty old Japan made 3/8 rat that still works, Harold USA pliers, no name 8mm 1/4" socket, Cman 11mm socket, SK 13mm socket, Challenger 13mm socket & my favorite, a 9mm Bonney wrench! All was $5

No luck at the yard sales today, one of them didn't even bother putting signs out front and the sale was in the garage behind the house. No wonder they didn't have anyone show up.

The dealer that I've been looking for at the FM wasn't there again this week, but I still walked out with a couple of pieces for $7.

An unmarked jeweler's hammer (peeling chrome and chewed up faces)
A Superior Tool Co. (Cleveland) flairing tool
A pair of Vice-Grip (Peterson/Dewitt) 5WR pliers

Not a great haul, like some of the others. But at least I didn't get skunked this week. :dunno:;)

FBJR: Curious - what caused the fire?

German made lithium battery charger. Overcharged the battery, it "vented" like a book of matches. It was ugly but no one was hurt.

Here is the rebuild thread; http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=704660&highlight=garage still have some trim to do.

I am about to retire (august 1st) and have many a project to finish/start/think of :D (25 years LEO) still have a 6-9-11 year old to raise.

Nice find on all the tools guys. I am going to start a Friday vigil for stuff.

Mike

That is a Heck of a First post Mike!

I'd like ot see better pic of the double claw hammer in the "rusty tools" pic, as well as the odd hammer head in the upper left, (Look up my Hammer tiem thread, these are good candidates!

The Swivel jaws in the lower right: is it a Heller bros or masterwrench? And it had smooth jaws or pipe (teeth) jaws?

Sweet find on the Plvmb Keychain driver! you do know there is a difference between Plvmb(Plomb), and Plumb, right? Plvmb became Proto after a lost lawsuit with Plumb over trademark infringement in 1948.

No luck at the yard sales today, SNIP

Today I DID get skunked, none advertised worth going to, and I went out to the hardware store and saw nothing :dunno:

I may make an hour drive to go get something else, still Emailing the seller..

Ouch! - Not sure this would have made the difference, but does the new shop have GFIC where things like chargers will run, and a safer place to charge in case of another meltdown?

Some good stuff this weekend guys! Mk3Mike, I love that fan.

Here's some pics of my end of week pick-ups.

Pic 1: About 150 pieces of USA Craftsman, ¼”, 3/8”, and ½” drive ratchets and sockets in SAE and metric, 6 and 12 point. These were in one of those 4 drawer plastic Craftsman boxes made specifically for their socket sets and between the 3 drive sizes there were only 7 sockets missing from the spaces provided.

Pic 2: Framing squares, soap stone and tire gauge, CMan 8 piece metric ratcheting combo set, Kobalt digital caliper, old time Stilson pipe wrench, CMan and Stanley hammers, Tillman welding gloves, CMan magnetic tray, USA twist drills of various sizes, Stanley Fat Max magnetic level, Powerlock and Starrett steel tapes, unmarked torx driver, Knipex knippers, Cman slip-joint pliers and 7” cutters.

Pic 3: Filter wrench, Ken-Tool bead breakers, assorted pry-bars, cordless Dremel tool, BIG rubber mallet, CMan seal puller, Channellock and CMan pliers, Channellock, Proto and CMan snap ring pliers, Thorsen PBH, New Britain andjustable wrench, CMan cotter pin puller and 6” adjustable by Proto and Crescent.

Pic 4: DeWalt and CMan bags, CMan rolling stool with tool tray, Werner step ladder.

Pics 5/6: Tie downs, propane and mapp gas torch set, extension, receivers, hitches and wiring connectors.

Pic 7: Twenty-two feet of 5/16” chain with hooks, Campbell screw-pin anchor shackles and hooks, Shur-Loc and other high-grade connectors and shackles.

FREE.

Allow me to explain.

Thursday I answered a local ad for a tool lot, the seller says he’s moving out of state and can’t take anything with him. He didn’t want to piece anything out so I bought it all. The pics show what I culled for my own use excepting the Campbell shackles and hooks, the Shur-Loc and the Craftsman ratcheting combo’s which I don’t need or want and will sell. After selling almost everything else I didn’t want I’ve covered what I spent here, my auction purchases from Wednesday and the 26” boxes I posted earlier in the week. If I can keep going at this rate for a while my GF might continue to put up with my tool buying.:fingersx:

Come to find out one of my Snap-on tool might make me my money back plus more, the FSX 620 spark plug socket swivel is sold on ebay for $30-$40 a piece.

Kind of torn on selling it though cause it just might come in handy when doing my sockets on the ranger. Of course I've done without it this long! LOL

Yesterday was a wash out and today was less than thrilling at the flea.

I tried to track down a Cleveland OH made Columbian vice I saw last week for zkling and she said it sold Saturday. Ugh.

Then I found a 3.5" Rock Island non-swivel for zkling that was a hoss that I got the seller down to $20 but I did not know zkling's price point. And Lord knows i don't need another vise. Or vice. LOLZ

Did the rounds while trying to figure out what to do about the vice and a seller had a buyer that wanted a carry toolbox but not the sockets. I asked the seller to see the sockets since he was selling off the no-name box and did not have a place for the sockets and offered $5.

29 S-K and 2 Proto spark plug sockets for less than a quater a piece.

Other than that, two Plvmb's for a buck for both (one pebble finish-Plvmb boyz hit me up, I grabbed them for you) and a C'man bit driver and the rest including a wtf underline Snap-On 1982 date code S8190A 9/16 "something" that has been modded. My guess is a modded punch.

Fun goodies were a adjustable wrench keychain and a TRUE Chinese 12mm/14mm DOE wrench that I have never seen in only Chinese characters. I think I know who will get these...

Maybe. :)

All-in-all, Comme ci, comme ça.

Mk3Mike,

I've got that same keychain screwdriver.

I bought it and a box of misc. junk at an antique store back in 2000. I can't tell you how many times that little ****** has come in handy!

Screw clamps for a busted radiator hose, taking a screw out of the grip panel of a rel\volver so the new buyer could examine the internals, putting batteries in the kid's toys at relatives house during Christmas. Too many more times to remember.

Mike: welcome to Garage Journal and nice first post. you'll fit right in and nice story about finding your Gramp's little Plvmb for your keychain.

IT: Free tools from buying too many and finding homes for the ones you don't need is why most of us get up every day. it's a blast and looks like you had fun this weekend.

FBJR: man that fire must have made your heart sink. I'm like BC wondering why the propane tanks didn't explode under your lathe. My friend that also owns an Enco like yours (might not be exact model), told me he paid $4,500 for it new in 1972 and after him using it for 40 years it still looks and works great. feel free to PM me if you have any questions on setting it up and i'll ask him if he might know the answer or feel free to start a thread on your lathe set up and i'm sure a lot of us would like to watch and learn.

i had a pretty decent haul this weekend at a few stops and as soon as i unload the car(S) and take some pictures i'll share. mostly tools, but some odd ball stuff too like an oxygen tank on wheels that I've seen used for medical reasons.

Saw a "US made vise" on CL yesterday morning for $40, and drove 2 hours to buy it.

Stopped on the way back home at an estate sale I had been to a few months ago, and got the misc stuff and the sander for $20. Sander needs the rubber pad replaced, the corners are broken off.

Holy cow, I haven't seen a regulator for a generator in AGES! Anyone remember you had to polarized then on installation? :ninja:

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I'm happy to be able to share my findings with you all and take in a bunch of valuable information along the way.

Nine, I think there are a couple purchases I made this weekend that you'll approve of.

Outlaw, the double claw hammer is one of the few tools that I've decided to sell. (I need to offset my tool spending somehow.) I just listed it on ebay the other day with some better photos. I came up with the price based on the high side of what they've sold for recently. If anyone is interested in it feel free to send me a PM and I'd give you a better price (sorry for the shameless plug but I don't want it to seem like I'm hiding the fact that I'm selling it). I can check on the other pieces you were asking about. Most of the stuff is set aside until I set up my electrolysis tank.

I did know a little bit about the Plomb/Plumb lawsuit. What I do know about Plvmb is that since I now saw pictures of the pebble finish wrenches, I'm dying to find some out in the wild. I really love the gothic look that they have.

Here are my findings for the weekend.

First yard sale of Saturday morning was a local family that formerly owned the town hardware store. I've been to their yard sales in the past and I've gotten some pretty neat stuff. This time I think I did well. Picked up a big crown top Craftsman Commercial toolbox, an old double-flaring kit, a MAC ohm meter and an old tool/hardware catalog from March, 1960.

Next set of stops were at a neighborhood wide sale in a nice little part of town that I've never been in. They were all pretty spread out so my fiancee, my daughter and I enjoyed taking a long walk stopping at as many houses as our daughter would allow. The second stop barely had anything out but it turned out the guy was a retired machinist. I mentioned that I was getting into machining my own parts to use on track cars and such. He pointed down to the pile of German twist drills and said, "I'll tell you what, give me $10 and you can have all these." He then continued to throw in the carbide inserts too. I shook his hand and promised that I would put them to good use.

The next stop didn't have much for me, but my fiancee scored some wood crates for a project she has going on as well as a piece of designer luggage. The owners did tell me that the neighbor a few houses down had a bucket of screwdrivers and some other tools. When I got there I picked up a Craftsman Pro BP hammer, long Proto screwdriver, 3 Craftsman screwdrivers, a pair or Malco V-notchers and a wood handled carpenters hammer (not pictured, fiancee needed it for above mentioned project) for $10.

After I paid the gentleman, I noticed a closed black box on another table marked $25. Opened it up and its a practically unused Blackhawk 1/4" & 3/8" socket set only missing the allen wrenches. I offered him $20 and he accepted.

The final stop for Saturday was at the local flea market to make some planned purchases from some of the guys that sell machinist tools. I'm still working on getting some of the basics and learning how to properly use it all. I picked up a machinist square and a few center drills for $25.

Today we only made one stop in the morning back at the same place we went to first on Saturday. My fiancee wanted to ask the guy about some old fence wood she saw the day before, and I was hoping that something that I passed up on Saturday would still be there and it was. Got me a Craftsman belt sander in the crown top case w/extra belts along with an old nail puller.

Thank you for allowing me to share with you all. As soon as my garage is a little more presentable I'll make a more proper introduction thread but until then I look forward to being more active on the boards!

Thanks!

Those were little MAP gas cylinders. Wouldn't have made a diff at all, believe me. The OX/ACL torches on the opposite side, they made fireworks!!

I have an Emco, think you may have typo-ed "Enco" which is a supplier in NV. It is good though, got the jest of it and setup is OK. This is my 5th lathe (kinda like tools, you just get another)

GFCI wouldn't have done a thing. I now store and charge them in a special bag. The batteries are for radio control planes and the lithiums are standard now with balance tabs that helps alot with overcharging.
Here was an overall of the garage.

Hers a couple pics of where it started, whats left of the garage and the attic above. The attic was more of a loss as it had almost all of my fathers things who had past away a couple years earlier.

Holy cow, I haven't seen a regulator for a generator in AGES! Anyone remember you had to polarized then on installation? :ninja:

I remember sparking them regularly to keep the Lucas generator working on my various British motorcycles.

Wow, ***** you lost your dad's stuff.

I've always been tempted to run a 1" pipe through my garage with a couple of those fire sprinkler heads off it.

That is a totally awesome piece of equipment. You got your money's worth just in the tooling and accessories.

It looks exactly like my Chicago Pneumatic, which is made in Japan. Definitely worth a fiver.

That looks like a Wilton 1755, about $450 list.

You ****!
