Hey guys, just finished up installing my new Liftmaster 8500 :bounce: Sweet opener. Just registered it now im looking to buy the Internet Gateway setup. My question is, ive been reading up on what it controls. I know you can control lights and open it from your phone, but for those of you that have this, does it send you text or alert if door has been opened?? Or is it just operable from your phone?? Is it worth buying and installing? To me its not if all it does is control a few lights and opens it with you phone..just was wondering?? I appreciate all input here...

You can set it to message you when a device is activated (open, close,on,off). I have mine set to control the workshop door and a light in the living room. It is pretty cool and does come in handy. It has a pretty good range too.

So it does message you when something is activated? And when you say it controls a light in living room, you also have it linked to your house??? How does that work?

Sorry for the delayed response.

You set it up to email you for alerts if you desire.

The living room light is controlled by a small plug-in that goes into a power outlet and a lamp plugs into that. It will also work with the garage door remote too.

The cool thing about the app that controls everything is that it will tell you how long the device has been in its' current state (ie...light has been on for 2.5 hours or garage door has been closed for 14 hours.

You can setup the app to message you with any door activity. Mine does whenever either of my doors open or close. The messages comes through as an alert from the smart phone app. If I'm away from the house and the door opens, I know it.

I finally got everything to work except the function to open and close door. I tried to open it from with my phone while my g/f was home..never could get it to work. Is there a certain range it will work from within or is it just mine? Everything else works, alerts all that..Anyone else have this issue?

No, mine works a country away. When I was in the Caymans I could tell that my son had opened the garage door and when.

Same here....anywhere I have an internet connection....I have the app on my Droid phone and IPad.....both work great. Combine that app with my security cams and I have literally opened my door and WATCHED it open from three states away from home.

I have six doors with the 8500 and all of them work through the gateway with no problem. We were down in Florida last week and every time my nephew came to check on the animals, the system sent me an alert. We didn't give him a house key, just a remote so we could monitor. LOL - we didn't tell him we could monitor it or that we saw when he took my wife's car (2013 Explorer Sport) and then my daughter's car (2013 Taurus SHO)... repeatedly. We were cool with this though.

Just an FYI - I got an email from LiftMaster a couple of weeks ago indicating they were doing some heavy work on their servers and that we should expect outages and limited ability to open or close the doors remotely. Unfortunately, they never followed up to say if they were done or how long the "intermittent" problems will last. Last night when I logged in to the app I got a server error warning, but was able to operate all of the doors remotely.

I do think these are ready for prime time, but they are having some minor issues with the servers.

I got my 8500 up and running last night. The opener works great and I love the features like the lock and the timed closing, but I cannot get the Gateway to recognize any devices, either the opener itself or the wall mounted light control. The Gateway is located in the room above the garage so it's not that far away from the 8500 unit itself.

Do any of you guys have any suggestions for me to try before I call customer support? Thank you in advance.

Not really much help...following the directions, mine connected right away and haven't had any trouble in a year or so.

It's been awhile since I set my gateway up.. I remember something about the serial number of the gateway being used in the setup and using the learn button along with the app on your phone. I had a problem with that, but all works well now. I am looking forward to an improvement to the app that will allow me to set up times for lights to go on and off while I am away.

I have the remote wall switch for the hallway light and 3 remote lamp devices.

I just had this opener installed 2 weeks ago. Where do I get the parts, or hardware to hook it up so I can use it with my phone ?

All is well with my opener and Gateway, I had to perform a soft reboot on the gateway and I got it linked up this morning, and it's working as described. I am having a bit of an issue getting my '08 BMW to recognize the new opener and I may have to get the Homelink repeater kit as well, I don't know yet.

I purchased my opener from an Ebay vendor, and got the remote light switch and Gateway from Amazon.

You should check with Homelink. I was told by Liftmaster (before I bought my unit) that it is compatible with Homelink enabled vehicles from 2012 on. I set mine up a couple of days ago with our two cars (2014 Honda Odyssey and 2013 BMW 535 X Drive) and it worked fine. I have read that some people have not been successful with older cars.

I did need the Homelink repeater for my Bimmer, my 2012 Sienna did just fine. All is good!
