hydraulic tube bender storage

currently i have a jd model 2 hydraulic tube bender with about 3 full sets of dies, the PO had it set up in his large shop and he built it so that it sits on a 3' x3' base with casters. the over all heght is about 4' to the top of the ram.

its a good setup however at 3'x3' it does eat up a lot of real estate on my already crowded 2 car garage.
I seldom use the bender, and am looking at more compact way to store it.

i will try to get some picture up later for a better visual

lol, santa barbarara is still easily 5-6 hours from me in San Francisco. Ive been playing with the ide of some bases, one that will only be 1'x1' for storage and the other will be 1'x1' that i will pour flush into my driveway to act as a mounting pad and anchor

I've been thinking of building a table/cart thing for mine that will straddle my welder cart. I want to switch mine to electric/hydraulic so I've been trying to think of ideas for a new cart also.

There was somewhere on this forum a guy who posted up plans for a bender stand that changed the orientation of the bender to vertical instead of horizontal. It should take up a lot less room that way.

I tried, but my search powers are not strong enough to find it. Maybe someone else can try?

I had a probender like that but it made some bends awkward. Definitely sucked with low ceilings too.

I agree but some folks have more vertical space than horizontal space especially if you are starting with a long piece of DOM. I have drooled on the tube shark and it is vertical too.

FWIW I dont have a bender myself but I thought this info might be a solution.

Telescoping legs
Make it shorter to go under something when not in use

Make legs removable so you can store flat against the wall

Build a shed, store out there

Give it to me, you won't have to store it anymore. And I still let you use it

When I poured the floor in my shop I put in a square receiver in the floor. same kind receiver that goes on a PU truck. that way I mounted my bender to a 2 inch square tube. when I wanted to use it I popped it in the receiver and when i was done I pop it out and store it all in a corner of the shop or wherever. just a thought

ive thought about the receiver hitch as well, I like the link above with the vertical plane, i may copy that for compactness but pit a hinged pivot and locking pin to bring into a horizontal plane, ill keep you guys posted on what i figure out

Some of these guys are worried about where you live..... not me. Load it up and bring it over, I don't care how far you have to drive. I'll be fine even if it takes you an extra couple of days.
I'll store it, and probably not sell it, unless you end up marrying my sister, then, naturally, I will need beer money...You can always find us another one.
