The Perfect SNAP-ON Ratchet Idea????

so here my idea of what i think the perfect snap-on ratchet, that snap-on has never made would be,you take the quick release FHR80 and not use the soft handle junk, and replace it with the Bigger hard handle off the s008 screwdriver and BAM you have the dual 80 meck with the ease of socket removal (that we all really like) and a larger - more hand filling handle. what do you gentlemen think on this. one day maby ill have to build this and have what i think would be the perfect ratchet in my collection.

In reality the SO ratchets with any kinda handle are a liability.

haven't herd of that happening but ok. if you put the handle on well enough i don't see an issue but sure.

Yeah but a handle of any kind is a hindrance.

Bare handles can be parm slapped, extended with a pipe, heck I use them as pry bars, striking tools etc.

Depends on what the use is. A handle is nice for sure but would suffer during heavy duty use.

GS80 1/2 drive is the perfect unit IMO.

not exactly feeling the love here mike? i am sure you are a good guy and the dual 80 is an adequate ratchet but you have been a member since the 25th and started 4 threads on dual 80 ratchets. people have been modifying them and talking about them for years.

it's old news, you can buy them from creepy old guys on any street corner (they even sell them on the truck yet)from brand new to rode hard and put away wet. you will get more attention sliding that hard handle on a duralast ratchet but just a heads up, it has already been done.i would guess half a dozen threads and 47 pictures on it also.

I agree. You can do different stuff with your hard handles. I like the sizes SO put on their ratchets. My only gripe is that SO should recognize the collectable nature of these tools and produce all of the range in all of the colors they make. All of my 3/8" ratchets are yellow like my screwdrivers. But I cannot buy a yellow handle on a 1/4" drive ratchet. What's up with that? I'd also like some yellow SO hammers. I think they only make one.

Meh I have one hard handle ratchet, won it in a drawing on the truck, pink at that! I'm not that impressed myself. I like the soft handles.

I personally like the comfort grip tons more than the hard screwdriver handle. Many times the hard handle has slipped and the torque I try to apply isn't very good compared to he comfort grip with oil grease etc. plus if the handle gets messed up a new one is less than 10 dollars in any color...what's not to like

ya that's for sure. i haven't had snap-on ratchets before and am more intrested in them cuz there new to me

reason number 48,543 why i carry a pocket screw driver:to get short snap on sockets off my dual 80 ratchet

seriously...my cman and w/e lil junk sockets i may have come off easy, but my short snap on sockets don't want to without a lil help from the screwdriver

and as far as needing a prybar, that's what i have screwdrivers and prybars for bud

People take handles off of screw drivers and drill them out and then install them on smaller ratchets all the time. Some of the members here do it and then sell them as a custom ratchet. They make damn good money on them.

You can buy a larger replacement handle and put it on any ratchet. You can use epoxy to really make it fit well. I have a full set of older Snap-on's with hard handles. My 3/8" swivel ratchet is a finer tooth and I use it all the time. Not so sure you idea is all that new.

i haven't seen a larger handle afixed to a push release SO ratchet, and or said ratchet with a hard handle at all.

Mike wrench more often and two things will happen. One you wont need the push release. Two if you decided to go to the push release you will realize it adds bulk to the ratchet.

Also if it doesnt have a flex head its not the perfect ratchet. I love the comfort soft grip. My current ratchet is almost 2 years old and the comfort grip is in great condition aside from 1 big nick in it. Oddly enough that scar came when a new guy borrowed my ratchet without asking. I asked how much it would cost to replace the handle and my rep said $6 or something. I then realized that the handle was still very comfortable and that $6 would be better spend on something else at the time.

you guys' reps make you pay for the handle? my guy replaces them as part of the warranty...hell he even swapped out some green handles on ratchets for the red(which i like better personally)

Same here all of my hard handles are red. My driver swapped me straight across a red 1/4 drive for the green one I had.

Mike wrench more often and two things will happen. One you wont need the push release. Two if you decided to go to the push release you will realize it adds bulk to the ratchet.

honestly ive been wrenching since i was about 12 im 23 now and i DO not like the flex head **** and have used push release ratchets until i got theses newer dual 80 last week, they haven't gave an issue of adding bulk it makes it easier to release a socket with greasy oily hands without a prying implement. i dont mean to sound harsh but i like what i like because of my experience so ya that's what i think.
