it was made by Prentiss vise company and probably a 1930's or maybe a bit older vise. can you post the width of the jaws across the top when it's closed and how much does it weigh?

you might post this one on the Vises of Garage Journal because the vise experts over there might have better answers.

you have a keeper that is for sure especially if there are not any welds, cracks or missing parts that can't be seen in this picture. by the way at Garage Journal one picture of an almost 100 year old vise isn't enough so post a bunch more on this thread if you can and on your post over on the vise thread too.

welcome to garage journal and happy to have another member to teach us what you know and maybe learn a little from us.

Monarch 217s have 5" jaws but run on the light side, weighing in the area of 60 lbs

Prestiss shut its doors in the late 50's so it no newer then that date. Take care of that guy because they we're made a bit lighter then an actual Prestiss vise and are not as durable with use

Thanx to both of you :) I did post it over there as well and got a great reply from Outlawmws...
I am thinking it was made in Jan 1948 because of a code # stamped under the moveable piece...
Thanx for the replies! :)
