My wife gets home around 5:30 everyday... cat follows her in... door closes... 5:35 she mentions, her tires are low... she walks upstairs, leaving me with the task. I could explain or ask her to wait on the closing of the garage but... I have been married for 34 years, I know it won't make a difference.

I ran a 3/4" pvc pipe thru the hole to the back of the exterior outlet box, which is all metal and made in the USA... was collecting dust on a shelf.

By the way... she thought this was soo nifty... well you know what happened next.

I'm missing something. So, how do you pull the hose out? Go inside and carefully unwind it and lay it out on the floor, then pull it thru? When done go back inside and pull it back and wind it back up?

I like the spring reel inside and the roller fairlead outside, that someone posted above.

I'm kinda wondering the same thing. If you're just going to leave it sticking out like that, wouldn't it have been better to just use a short pipe stub hard mounted through the wall with a male/female fitting on each end?

I have a 50 foot spring coil hose I bring out and connect to the dongle. I can easily pull out and push in a foot of the hose. I only did it this way because its easier than trying to stick your fingers in the box to release the connector. I actually originally had it with rigid pipe... all fastened down when I decided to do it the way you see it in the pictures. The small coil of hose you see on the inside is wasted at this point... I will probably replace the hose from the compressor to the port, leaving a foot of slack.

Yes in a perfect world with all the money in the world to spend... I certainly would have put a retractable reel inside. I had to work with what was in the cigar box on the shelf.

If I do change it back to rigid pipe. I will need to modify the electrical box by enlarging the rectangular hole... this will solve the fat finger syndrome. Come to think of it... even with rigid pipe.. I could make it slide out 4 to 6 inches to accommodate my sausage fingers.

I've had one for years, copper pipe through the wall, 45 degree elbow and a brass female connector outside. I have it plumbed to my air compressor in my basement with a shut off and male connector that I hook a hose up to when I want air outside. It's worked fine for the last 10 or so years. Handy as ever.

Instead of modifying the electrical box, maybe add a air hose swivel connector where it exits the wall, with another 4"-6" stub, then the pipe can just fold into the box when not needed. Have things slide will probably **** when you're trying to connect and un-connect one handed

the first one rotates for summer use outside the door, the second has its own reel, needs a cover but also has a port with "fairlead" for hot pressure washer.

That's a fantastic idea! Well played, sir!

Tried a few things in mock-up... a swivel was one. I really needed to yank it out a few inches to get the connector to work properly. (omg that sounds ***) It was a bit too tight to fold it into the box and close the door.

I'm staying with the pictured design. I push it in the box... close it... can't tell it's an air port. Open it... tug out a few inches... connect to a portible spring coil hose, presto it works great.

My main goal was set by my wife... Stealth... Cost... which meant, I couldn't drop $150 on a quality/non-hf retractable. It also meant I couldn't hang/dangle something a hell of alot more usefull on the front of my house.

The goal was met, wife is happy, I got lucky... All is good. :rocker:

Glad you got some but we really don't need to hear the details.
