Hobart Handler 140 MIG Welder @ TSC $479.99 -or- Hobart 210 MVP @ Blain's for $795

I know this isn't a screaming hot deal, but if you're looking for a decent 115 VAC Welder at a less-than-market price, this isn't a bad deal.

Hobart Handler 140 MIG Welder at TSC -> $479.99

The cheapest online price I saw, from a reputable outlet, was via RuralKing for $499.99 + shipping (perhaps you can get free shipping with coupon 'FREESHIP' as it's over $100), so depending on how local sales tax shakes out for you, or better yet -- if you can claim it back either way, it's an honest deal and they're usually in stock in the stores.

Ok, so maybe $20 isn't a huge savings, but it's still not frighteningly bad for a decent welder. :)

I actually bought a Hobart Handler 140 earlier today from Sears for $414 + tax, with free shipping. I was searching for prices on Google and noticed the Sears price come up as $449 (from their usual $529). When I arrived at the Sears page though, it said $529, but when I added it to my cart it appeared as $449. Odd. There's a $35 off $300 coupon code (SEARS35OFF300), taking it down to $414.

Very odd. Not only would it not appear in my cart for $449, but when I try to apply the coupon, it says, "We didn't apply this coupon because it doesn't apply to your order or a better coupon has already been applied."

No other coupons or points were in my cart at the time, nor was I logged in. $414 + tax is a great price for that welder!!

Yeah, I'm not sure why it works, but the only thing I can suggest is to periodically search google with "hobart 140". On the right-hand side of the results page there will be a small window summarizing online vendor prices and Sears is usually one of them. If it says $449, click on the link and try adding it to your cart.

Hmnn.. it must be a region thing. Does it still pop up at that price for you? RuralKing will price match, and without tax/shipping charges, it's better than TSC, but it would be nice to snag one of these for $414 + tax. It's only a $32 savings, but hey... if the product is the same, price does matter!

For whatever it's worth, I did try using a different browser - don't ask.

No, it doesn't come up at the reduced price for me. You just have to get lucky and have the stars align. I just checked each morning ;) I don't know if you can set a price alert within Google to let you know.

I called them. It seems as if you got a 15% discount off the regular sale price, which brought yours to $449.65. Then (somehow!) your SEARS35OFF300 was applied to bring it down to $414.65, then sales tax was applied, and with free shipping, it comes out to a great deal.

The lady on the phone (super friendly) was going to give me the 15%, but couldn't get the SEARS35OFF300 promotion, which really kind of negated it for me after tax was applied. What's even worse, though, is that you probably also qualify for the Sears $10 in reward points per month for a full year, which more or less drags yours down even further.

My envy is mounting, and the analysis of this transaction at length isn't helping that.

BUT, glad you got a good deal, for sure!

I gave up on the mysteriously-disappearing Sears Hobart Handler 140 deal and snagged a 210MVP for $795 from Blain's Fleet and Farm. I'd really like to try one of those multi-process welders, i.e. the MIG/TIG/Stick Fabricator 211i from Tweco, but I'll be brutally honest... not being made in the US and still costing more than many US-made welders (even if they don't have the capacity (who knows if that's even true, what's printed) or capability (TIG/Stick)) is a serious put-off. I doubt I can buy more machine for $800 than what I found there.

Carry on!

I'm showing $449 at Sears right now
Yes, and I just applied the $35 coupon to give:

Estimated Pre-tax Total $414.65

Also - thanks to p0lar for informing me that I am now eligible for the Tool of the Month program which gets you $10 off per month!
