One thing we were afraid of...

The word got out to a lot of car forums out there. We received hundreds of inbound links. The IT guys are telling me that the amount of traffic we received crashed our servers because it exceeded our bandwidth.

Obviously the interest in this product has well exceeded our expectations.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. We're going to increase the size of our bandwidth and re-announce the contest on Monday.

Wait a second. You already had the "contest" today.

I have guests coming over and my wife said I will not be resending this information while they are here.

I want the lift. I did from day one. And I still do. I will happily send my information at a time where it can be collected.

-Gabe

EDIT: I don't think that I will be resending it in tomorrow's "contest" as I will be working..Like many other people.

So does that mean that the contest is open to only the people who where members before the Group Buy announcement was made, not the new members who joined just because they had to so that they could try to get in on the GB?
That would limit the bandwidth needed.

Since many non-GJ are joining in to this contest, it would make sense after this non-event to offer the lift to GJ members and certainly to all who posted their interest today.....

What a great marketing ploy...perfect way to predict future production numbers. I've got better things to do Monday than get caught up in this again. Good luck to those that are still interested.

Yea...F this monday BS.. I sat around all day today while at a party catching **** from my wife while I waitied for this..and then I get an error message and tell her that I have to try again in another 30 minutes.. just to get ANOTHER error???

I repeat..if I do not get the GB price I will NOT be buying..EVER...and I will NOT be playing this game again on Monday!!

You had a month to get ready for this, it is NOT our fault!.

Again, 20 is not even 1 per state.. do the right thing, get the product to the end-users and let the future units sell themselves..

Yep, seems alot of Feb 09 newbies...I say give it to the 1st 20 people who posted here with the error. This is total BS. I really wanted this lift, but will seriously be reconsidering a 4 post. They've handled this like a bunch of amateurs.

Garage Journal Group Buy
Due to technical difficulties, this group buy promotion must be rescheduled. The amount of traffic we've received exceeded the bandwidth of our processing servers, which didn't allow submissions to go through. We sincerely apologize for the inconvience and will announce a rescheduled contest Monday.

I am very curious to see how they will handle this mess without really angering their customer base at Garage Journal.

Yeah, this fiasco will leave a lasting impression on many folks.
Wonder if Rotary or other competitors would get a chuckle if they were sent a link to this BS:evil:

This is a GJ group buy. You should give the deal to the first 20 people who posted on here with a membership longer than a month or two.

That is the only fair thing to do. after all it is a garage journal group buy and not a "other car forums" group buy.

Step up and take care of it. This has costed many loyal GJ members like myself a terrible inconvenience.

totally agree. now it's time for family. good luck to all other members.

I would have to agree as well. I will try and get in on the 20, but if not I will most likely not be purchasing in this economy. I understand the need to limit the sale, but something like a one - three day purchase window would allow all that a truly interested to get in on the deal, and not result in anyone getting frustrated.

I will say this one more time, as I said it on the second page a month ago.

Unfortunatly I planned my day around this and will most likely not be able to do it again. They have at least twenty people reporting errors here in the first five minutes, there is thier GB. I for one am very frustrated.

You had a month to get ready for this, it is NOT our fault!...

I understand your frustration, I really do, but comments like this tend to show me that ENTITLEMENT is alive and well in our society!

A manufacturer concepualizes , engineers, Patents, tests and manufactures a great product for a niche that we are part of. They determine what a fair market price should be and post it in the open then try to give a price break to 20 who wish to GAMBLE they will be successfull.

When the participation FAR EXCEEDS their anticipation and technical problems result, YOU (collectively, not singularly) act out as if you are ENTITLED to a discounted price!

SHAME ON ALL OF YOU WHO HOLD THAT ATTITUDE!

Sorry C2, but if they wanted to be fair they would give the GB price to the 1st 20 that posted on here. Alot of people planned around this, they should have planned too. By the time they reschedule another 5000 people will register on GJ just to get in. Hardly fair to people who have been on here for years. My guess is GJ will never see most of the new signups again.

What a joke.....

Where did the MaxJak website state to post on GJ if you are having technical difficulties. I am sure many people continued to fill out the group buy application on the MAxJax site instead of rushing back to GJ.

While the way this worked out is frustrating, basing the final offer on who posts to the page is not a solution. Lots of long time GJ members do not post to the pages everytime a foul wind blows. I got the form the first time I hit refresh and had the page submitted within 20 seconds. I didn't feel the need to run to the page and whine when I got the 404 after the second login. Same thing after 15:30.

Computers are machines and they do get bogged down. **** happens with bandwidth everyday. While it is not the optimum way for things to work, lots of larger companies have also had issues with volume.

I appreciate the fact that they came on here and tipped us all to this product coming out last fall. I was ready to pick up a mid rise scissor lift and held off because this is an all around better solution to my needs.

Ok so I have waited and the "contest" didn't work. Life goes on. I appreciate the effort that Dannmar put into this. I may try again when the next deal is announced tomorrow, or may just hold off and get one later. Life is too short to ***** about it. Its a want, not a need.

Maybe the right answer is for Dannmar to just pick a middle ground and offer them to GJ for 1800 delivered for the nexy couple of months....

Either way I will be a customer. If I had the headroom other options would be considered, but this still beats the hell out of a midrise. Same height, and I don't have to screw around with something blocking the underside.

There are some other factors involved, at least in my case. It's not a matter of what you see posted here on garage journal..Keep in mind that emails, phone calls and private messages were made LONG before a "group buy" was being discussed.

So anyone want to take a guess on how many people were trying to get the 20?

I had originally thought there would be 40 or 50 people trying to get in on this. Now I think it may have been a much higher number. All this for about 25% off list price for a $2,000 item. It's not like they were giving them away.

It didn't..but someone who was a member of GJ for more than 5 minutes just to get in on the GB would know to look here. Where else would you go to learn about a GARAGE JOURNAL group buy???!!!

Was not trying to imply that it was the only solution, or discount the early interest from folks here. Maybe Dannmar should go back to the info signup from last fall where they had folks register if they were interested in more info. That list should have some GJ folks on it who were ready to buy in the fall.
Seems to me that a "contest " approach to fastest typer is going to continue to provide issues for them.

Or maybne they should just realize they have a pretty good product and discount the price and sell a boatload.

I'll admit it I'm one of those guys that joined to get the group buy. There are 2 ways to look at it:

1) Just as most forums have minimum requirements for # of posts before you are allowed to list something for sale, there should be the same for taking advantage of group buys.

2) The group buy attracts new members to the forum.

I was notified by Dannmar on Friday the 13th about the group buy after I gave my e-mail addy for updates on the MaxJax. I never heard of your forum before I got the e-mail, and prob. will never come back on after this is over. Not because of the group buy fiasco, because I am a regular on SCCA forums and SpecMiata.com and 2 forums distracts me enough at work..

With that being said I just was looking for a good buy on the MaxJax, hopefully I can meet the folks from Dannmar somewhere between $1500 and list price for one.

Damn people. They were trying to do some of us a favor and you get pissed. It is just amazing that you feel they owe you ANTHING. If I were them and saw this much bitching and moaning, I would just cancel the contest. They are going to sell enough of these with or without you. Why put up with all of your bull SH*T.

well seems to be a peoblem that we as a community have here, so why don't we get a poll/petiton going where eleigibility would be voted on by the members, new and old........i suggest maxjax set the poll up and abide by our vote..........seems to be the fairest way.......

Heck!

I have been trying to log into GJ since 3:07 to report the error. GJ would not accept my password. After requesting a new one, I just got it to go through at 7:00 and here I am. At least some of you guys were able to log in to GJ and let them know immediately after the error failures.

I sent Danmar an email about the erro at 3:04. It does seem to be quite the mess.

I like many of you had to arrange around the 3:00 group buy. It was frustrating to get in, to be able top fill in the information screen, submit and then be redirected to another log in, which would result ina 404 error.

Good luck with the buy.

I came and participated, tried to provide the information via the method they setup... they were unable to handle the request... I sent a PM with the information they were asking for... even posted a jpg of the entry form as proof I was there...

They can't expect customers to go so much trouble for their business... they have my contact info. They can reach out to me now if they want my business....

POSTED 11/24/08

That's a good idea.

Full production in about two months.

I'll make an initial offer of 20 units max at special GJ pricing for GJ members which will be finalized soon.

Wish I could offer more but the margins on this lift will be low - but hopefully volume will make up for that.

I think it's necessary to stay in the price range slightly above a mid-rise, but less than a full-rise two-post.

And as those "comparable" models in today's market are simply a commodity, there leaves little room for profit.

I will be sure to post another thread regarding this offer at the roll out.

Have a great weekend all.

Jeff

Based on this statement, the way that I see it, the only people that should be allowed to have one at this special price are those that were members of GJ prior to November 24, 2008, when Jeff first announced the group buy. This will eliminate the problem of people trying to jump on the train after it has left the station. The people that meet this qualification should have first option. If there are less than 20 of these "senior" members wanting a lift, then they can have a lottery to determine who would be next in line.
Someone else prepared this list... I have put a star next to all that are original GJ members prior to 10/23/08, when this product was first announced. Those that have double stars after their name, showed interest prior to the group buy was even suggested 11/24/08. Those that are in red, are new members, since the group buy was announced.

I did not see where it said that you had to be a member of this forum before a certain date to take advantage of group buys.

keep in mind I was solicited by Dannmar and they made me aware of the group buy on the forum, I was not a member before I got the e-mail from them. I guess they were unaware of the "you have to be a member of this forum before this date or you can not take advantage of group buys" rule also.......
