I'm certainly not talking about anyone digging up native remains but medical display pieces are fair trade. You can buy them on ebay all day long starting at a couple hundred bucks.

Disclaimer: I do not want you guys out grave robbing to trade for Snap On....:lol_hitti

I am always amazed, what members here find...love this thread. for the uniqueness & variety....and good deals found.
nine4gmc - Great find, and congrats on your new property.

I showed the wife this cool Vornado stool/fan photo - she said, "it would take big stinky farts away"...:D
- so we named it the "fart stool"

No poop or celebrities, how about a Vornado, table fan stool for cool? The fan can be rotated to face out or up to distribute air around. Also got a cool 12" Craftsman chain wrench and some Proto goodness all for a $20 spot.

Katodog, With stealing the Husky Pro toolboxes with all that loot for $60, you have earned a You ****! Congrats!

A little soak in vinegar will do the Crescent some good!

That's just the tools and stuff, there was a lot of hardware, most of it still in the packaging. Screws, eye bolts, angle brackets, hooks, etc.. It's all already sorted and put away so there's no way to get it all out for photos. It was a good haul I'd say...unfortunately the voices in my head that are telling me to go to more garage sales probably don't realize that this was a once-in-a-lifetime find.

Definitely an Awesome Score!

But, but the looks at what others are coming across, there may still be some of these honey-hole finds still out there. This thread is definitely pushing us to pull over at garage sales or track down estate sales just to see what is still out there.

I like going to garage sales just because they're fun. The problem is that most of them out here are all kids clothes and random house ****, finding the tool boxes really was a miracle. The closest thing to that in the past 4 years or so was a sale that had a case full of boxes of brand new door handle kits. Nobody has any "good" stuff at garage sales around here...

I spent a couple of hours on my bicycle, cruising the town for sales. Spent $7 and came home with a stick of metric Allen sockets ( no COO, so I'll assume oh let's say...Taiwan), a Cman pliers, and 14mm Mastergrip ratcheting wrench (never heard of this brand). Nothing special, but it was a nice day for a ride.

Hey thanks Beaumont! Today was less great but not bad. Picked up these two packs for $10, I was only interested in the smaller one but figured I can recoup my money selling off the larger one.
01382.jpg

Next up is an old Craftsman edger for the new yard $5.
01383.jpg

Cool stretch lamp and Craftsman speeder $7
01385.jpg

And the deal of the day came from a purchase from a fellow garage saler. I was in the garage looking at tools and stepped in to the household section just in time to over hear Bobby ask the cashier lady how much for the stools. I glance over and see these bad *** stools there and she replies make an offer. He says $30, I'm thinking $30 each, she says you want them all, how about $10ea @ $40? Bobby is an older guy that's been doing this for years, he's sharp but tight wadded like me, he replies, let me think about it...I wanted the stools but did not want to step on his feet, him and I are cool so I yell out, "better not think too long"... He goes and sits in one and says he'll take them...damn. We are walking out and my girl said she would have given $50 for 2 of them easily since they would work perfect in the new place...I go up to Bobby and offer $50 for the 4, he thought about it for 1 moment then said, gimme the money! :wiily_nil
Delivery date of 1983 but look like they have not been used.

I picked up a Lufkin 18" rule for a combination square and the HP18K Malco metal hole punch pliers. I had never seen a set before and it seems pretty beefy and is a nice well made, made in USA tool. Will punch 1/8 or 3/16 holes. $20 for both.

Someone I have gotten tools from on Freecycle before called and asked if I was interested in an old disk sander they wanted rid of. in the past, I'd been given a 50's craftsman bandsaw, a number of spools of band saw blades, and other tools.

Delta 12 disc sander, on a delta stand. Exposed belts and the motor could use a better location, but it's a pretty nice sander for all that!

They also gave me an "extra motor" (their words) its a Crown craftsman side grinder wheel on a Wards 1/4 HP motor, and a Crown Craftsman (probably made by General) drill sharpening guide!

attachment.php

attachment.php

I'm thinking I'll use a reversible motor, use a 3 sheave pulley on the disk sander arbor, and set that wheel and drill guide (or one of the several others I have...) on the back side of the sander arbor. the sander and grinder would now be speed adjustable, and I can slow that grinding stone down a bit.

Possibilities...

Oh yeah, they also told me they are still digging through the garage! :pimpflash[/QUOTE]

I may be wrong and this may have been already discussed but the slots in the 12" disc sander base's bottom shelf lead me to believe the motor mounts their, and I believe it would spin clockwise also.

Great score! Free is good!

Many motors can be rewired to run in the other direction. That would allow you to swap the motor around and get it inside the stand...

No "you *****" here but it wasn't a total bust.

A collection of taps and misc machinist tools for $10. (most of the taps look great - Union, Morse and Hanson/Whitney):

P1030341.jpg

Some misc. cutters for $2/ea:

P1030344.jpg

Klein strippers and old CM Ratchet with oil port in the head $6:

P1030346.jpg

Sioux Die Grinder - $5. (the original price looks like it was $179 and made in Iowa???):

P1030348.jpg

P1030347.jpg

A case of approx. 100+ new heavy duty chemical gloves (L and XL) - $2:

P1030349.jpg

A RR Track Anvil - $5. (pretty lousy machining)

P1030350.jpg

Full jug of Propane but in the old style tank. Might not be legal to refill but maybe they'll take them as exchange tanks. I wonder if that extra fitting is for refilling the smaller torch cylinders.

10 planned YS's and 5 TOO's today, spread out all over the freakin' county. Most weren't worth the gas to drive out to them. It took so long to travel that I showed up late to all of them. I'm sure I missed some good stuff, especially at the 3rd YS (my first purchases). I ended up with only a 20% success rate (2 YS's and 1 TOO). :(

Pic 1 - 3rd YS - $5
Estwing EH-40 "Mini Saw" blade handle
20" Snap-On FX-20 "FERRET" 3/8" socket extension (1947 date code)
a cool small hammer w/chipped face
_____P S (?) STUBS
_____ENGLAND
_____22
MATCO SDM 63PI #1 phillips screwdriver (maroon)
unmarked air chuck (feels cheap, but with Liquid Electrical Tape on the coupler threads it doesn't leak)

Pic 2 - TOO #1 - $6
Utica #47 4" wire cutters (tip worn from trying to cut wrong material, but otherwise perfect)
2pr Utica #22-4 4" needle nose pliers

Pics 3&4 - 5th YS - $10
10 cans of spray paint (all but 2 full)
_____Rustoleum
_________2 Hammered Dark Bronze
_________2 Hammered Gold
_________2 Hammered Silver
_________1 Textured Nickel
_________1 Grey Auto Primer
_____Krylon
_________1 Gloss Banner Red
_________1 Brushed Metallic Satin Caramel Latte (possible contender to mimic Cman Power Bronze ?)
2 RadioShack Realistic Minimus-7 speakers (built like tanks - new shop speakers ?)
10 ORG landscape flags
and the cardboard box

I seem to recall it's a federal offence to traffic in human remains except for licensed lab/medical suppliers. :dunno: or it could be something I heard on the interwebs... :headscrat

Nope, human skulls are perfectly legal. Creepy, but legal. :wtf: Anyone want to guess where most of them come/came from?

Scored my first anvil at a sale last weekend. .75 cents! LOL

That's cool. What is it made out of? Now you need the matching hammer and forge.

Good stuff Dave.

Jake good deal on the paint cans. Don't you love when the color is selected for you?

Today started out with one very promising sale on my list. Same household in one family for 111 years. I got there early and was able to be the first guy inside 1 of 2 garages.

This was all i was able grab that seemed worthwile. I also picked up 4 pieces of nice and rare Griswold cast iron so ill do just fine on this sale. Total cost 25.00

The toolbox was sitting on a shelf, open and completely covered in dust. At least 50 people walked by, looked, and kept on going. It took me 2 seconds to find the name and put it into my bag.

Snap No.707 socket set, original box with decal. These seem to be quite rare.

the screwdrivers with good handles are mint, the others, not so much.
Claw hammer
Round hammer? if thats even an actual hammer head and not a weight.
SK sockets to fill out a set i want to sell
Proto wrench
1/2" made drive plug for a ratchet
3/4 to 1/2" adaptor
P&C deep socket

IIRC that is a hammer for brick street work. I posted one a while back and someone helped to identify it. Macbre or something like that :headscrat:

Today was a bust. :( Sporadic downpours kept most sales from even opening. Only got 2 aluminum funnels from an antique/consignment store for a dollar.

Yep I was looking it up last night. three states have restrictions on trading human parts across state lines or some such, but the feds don't care unless sit Native American remains... (Seems discriminatory..)

Most used to come from India, India had stopped that, then China picked up the trade, and now they have stopped that.. so there is a "shortage" :wtf:

Nice finds Guys!

Jake the hammered is getting expensive (at least around here...) I was in the hardware store and its about $7.50 a can...

Those Minimus 7's are good solid speakers for their size. A touch weak on bass, but a small "Sub" can fill that hole... (Most small subs are no such thing.. just a woofer...)

the grills will pry out if done carefully, then you can get the gunk off and maybe reshoot the paint in needed. rubber surrounds on the "woofers" so almost never die...

First stop, and a nice score for $5:

A full kit, possibly unused, "professional" Skew Driver set, Craftsman T10, T20 and 3/16 drivers, Ign. files, Dykes, Proto Combo, and a Kastar Feeler gauge.

attachment.php

the rest from the same seller: Hammers! 2 Stanley 4 oz BP's a no name metal handled BP, a tack, and a toy :D

attachment.php

This one has potential if I can get the back side retention ring A 1/8-5/8 Rohm keyless chuck! also an odd little multi tool with no name. $2 all! :bounce:

attachment.php

Next three pics were from the same sale - $8 all: A general dowel guide, and a back packer's "grasshopper" propane camp stove. the canister is the third leg for these. the Box is an old school pistol shooter's box.

The bracket up top is for a small spotting scope.

attachment.php

A Quarter for this concave mirror, pretty high mag too. probablt use thsi at the office and camping or for travel.

attachment.php

two 50' rolls of 3/8 copper tube, plus the angle snips for $10. the Snips are Pro snip and made in Dewitt Ne, (vise grip's (former) town, right?)

attachment.php

Two sales here: $1 for the BP and MAC impact socket, and $2 for the SK and 3 Craftsman Sockets:

attachment.php

2 bucks for this exposed screw Sampson vise. clearly has two issues, but I may use this one to make book ends...

attachment.php

And some sales fodder: a Schiller Park 4" Wilton bullet: Cleaned up, painted and the aluminum jaws belt sanded, hopefully it will put a dent in the $$ I spent on Carla's Parker! ;)

Some good stuff guys,

Dave, I think you **** for the $5 Sioux die grinder.

Outlaw that's a good haul, I really like the old saw.

I had one planned stop today, a sale that was cancelled last week. I’ve been looking for a small machinist’s chest for my basement bench and holding out for something in decent shape and not a lot of money. I got this Kennedy 620B and contents for $15. It’s in good shape, but in need of a good cleaning. There were a handful of Stanley chisels, some screwdrivers, a 3” Brink & Cotton clamp, three Ulmia wood turning tools and the other stuff in the photo inside.

The second stop was impromptu and yielded a few pieces by S-K, Mac, Proto and Craftsman as well as the handy file and the Disston mill ******* file. These items were .50-.75 each. The Craftsman wood chisel has the long C underline logo.
