For $1 they would make a cool desk display. ;) I'd totally use the speeders though.

WTF does this mean "For collecting purposes only, not for use"? Are the sockets made of saltines? Oh wait, are they saying that people buying such vintage sets don't actually use the tools? Possibility but they're still usable.

I'm not entirely certain how amazing a story a socket could tell. I'm betting all of the stories are fairly similar.

most would involve nuts.. and twisting and turning them.. :shocking: Its probably like listening to a bunch of middle age woman talk about their husbands..

What's up with the geared looking adapter?

It looks like that set predates ratchets - seems like all they have are sliding (breaker) bars and brace type "handles".

My guess is that gear looking adapter was an early type of "almost a ratchet" where you pushed down to engage the drive and then pulled back to allow it "ratchet" backwards.

I had a newer one of those "engaging adapters" It works exactly as you explained it. There was a internal spring that kept the lower section away from the upper male drive end. My friends that had used the adapter really didn't like how it would catch the skin on their palms when they would push in and engage the teeth. :shocking:

I remember a couple of years ago someone had one of those sets on ebay for many thousands of dollars. Zero bids, of course. I recall that set missing a piece.

This one is also missing a piece. Lower right side of left door has an empty retainer. Same seller?

I would consider that set as a display peice. I would not use them. It's tool history right there. 100 bucks doesn't seem unreasonable just because of the cool factor. I'd probably be around the 50-75 range mainly cause i'm cheap.

Nothing annoys me more than somebody putting $1 for the price, knowing good and well the price is far more, but that gets the hits. That said I might shoot them a text that I will be right over with $1 in my hand!

Dear Sir,

After doing much research, I have decided not to quibble with you on price. I know you are willing to accept fair offers, but respect your opinion on these very rare, very collectible tools.

I am ready and able to pay your full asking price, saving you the trouble of haggling or negotiating. I have no intention of using the tools, as they are antiques worth of collecting only, and therefore can only increase in value for my investment.

Please remove the listing and consider this a done deal!

Its from about 1928. Hard to find but not rare. Some pieces missing, but those are not hard to find. Value 300-450 give or take.

It should be flagged since he has not listed a price. If he wants an auction go to ebay.

But that takes ambition, intelligence and a back bone. All of which a high percentage of craigslist users lack.

That a pretty cool looking set of tools and I'm sure they don't come up for sale that often, especially when they are that complete

I found a No.707 set a few weeks ago and it's gonna need lots of work and a number of parts to fill in the pieces but should look great when done
