I haven't seen either in person, but there's a 657/637 and also a 537/557/274/274 combo listed locally. Each is listed at $600. Both look decently clean from the pictures.

I need a box like a hole in the head (just a hobbyist here, but I'd like a decent place to organize the stuff) and had just picked up a KRB2006 a few weeks ago. I've got a feeler out for that one in the classifieds just in case.

It would be nice to have a few more inches of width over the 26" so I don't have to jam breakers and pry bars in diagonally.

I've always really liked the 537 and got shafted on one listed on CL a few years ago when the seller never met me, but the all ball bearing set up of the 6xx series is appealing too.

I know I'd find something to fill the side cabs eventually, but I'd barely have room in the garage for the whole shebang.

So do I A) save my scarce cash and stick with my Blue Point and '88 Craftsman top combo, B) go look at the 5xx combo, or C) go look at the 6xx combo?

Personally I'd save the money on the box. Definitely go with used or cheaper brands and probably keep original. Go with whatever fits your space best. The taller one would probably be best to keep old box next to. Both look like decent deals. Spend extra on quality tools to fill the cheaper boxes. That's what I did.

need a picture for option A. What are you currently working with?

I don't have a picture of my top (I'll try to remember to get one), but it's a 10 drawer '88 USA made in decent shape. 26" wide, 16" deep. The BP cab is 20" deep and 26" wide. They're totally stuffed, but they're also totally stuffed into my 1 car garage as well.

If your current storage can handle your needs, save the money and buy more tools. If you definitely need more room, the newer version (637/657) gets my vote. The roller bearing slides are nice. Also, the add-on side cabinets on the older box just doesn't do it for me.

not bad either way at 600. 500 cash makes the decision easier for me, the one on the left

^^^^ That was my thinking when I got my 637.
Regretfully, I was in no position ($$$$) to follow up and get the 657 when they were available.

So let me start by saying I love the SO boxes...but there's a website called strictly tools boxes that has some very competitively priced boxes that are every it as good as the SO boxes.

Might want to check that out.

even tho the boxes you pictured are 33" wide, the drawer width in the top box are even less than what you have in a std 26" wide box.

i have both sets, i prefer the later one with the full width drop front.

btw the sideboxes will stack up on one side.....
