I got this one today date code 1986.

juha6age.jpg

Its 29 wide x 30 tall x 18 deep
This thing is stout. I believe was used in hospital cause of old medical supplies that fell behind bottom drawer. Missing key and one waterloo clip for bottom drawer. Except for that thing looks almost brand new.

Have a good one, Gerard

Just so people can see what was listed before it's gone.

Date de l'affichage 01-juin-14
Prix 25,00 $
Adresse Bromont, QC, Canada

Coffre d'outils sur roulette, pas neuf mais solide
[translation : "Toolbox on wheels, not new but solid"]

Unfortunatly, I'm too far away right now. If I was at my house in Maine, I'd take a run up to get it. About a 3 1/2 hr drive. :(

Thanks for quoting the pic, forgot to do it.

Yeah, same situation here, too long of a drive for a 25$ toolbox. Though if I didn't have nothing better to do i'd probably do it, and I'd likely have a hard time not laughing in the guy's face after giving him his money...

Do the drawers really open from both sides? I did a little research last night and couldn't find anything.

Bah!

Here's another on in QC for a ridiculous amount. 20$ for a Proto top box (I'm guessing the Beach roller isn't included)

http://www.kijiji.ca/v-etabli-coffr...ils/602930609?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

And also this Mastercraft 8-drawer for 40$. This a different layout, see plenty of 6 and 9 drawer Mastercraft top box's but I think this is the first one I've seen like this.

http://www.kijiji.ca/v-etabli-coffr...ils/602965334?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

WHY ARE THESE ALL IN QC AND NOT IN NEW-BRUNSWICK OR NOVA SCOTIA (or at least closer to the border of NB & QC) :'(

My first thought was that the Mastercraft was a rebadged Beach, but looking at it again the little thumb latch next to the lock is identical to some 80's Britool boxes made by SPG International, also of Canada.

They copied the Beach handle style (and still do some boxes with them) but having owned both, the quality of the SPG ones is nowhere near Beach. Even if it was next door I probably wouldn't give $40 for that - I sold mine for less IIRC!

You'd be correct. SPG took over from Beach making box's for Canadian Tire, unsure at exactly what point in time though. But I was mostly pointing out that prices around me ****. There's a beach-made Mastercraft 6-drawer top box that's been for sale in Nova Scotia for god knows how long now, for 125$. It's in good shape, but heck :s

Really like that Matco. What's the length and front to back depth measure? Any idea how old it is?
Way cool, Jim

Thanks Jim,

Sorry not sure of it's age... I will try and measure it up and let you know. It has really cool keyed storage on the back side as well... I keep shop towel rolls in there, but it was a nice place to store chemicals and such as well.

:)

It is 51" wide X 24" deep x 40" tall. Here are some pics of the back storage.

It still holds quite a bit, and the price was right when I buoght it about 8 years ago for $250. :)

Yeah, I don't mean to diss your box, it is a nice one and that was a great price, but if those drawers were full depth, That would be dang near my ideal roller, and would have gone high on my "search for a deal" list. No wasteful overly deep drawers, and a nice big drawer on top for sockets and drive tools...

Does the box usually sit out where you can access the back panel?

Yes, in my case it does. I have access all the way around the box. The end with the vise on it (very sturdy on the Matco box, I use it all the time) is lined up with and only a few feet away from a lally column. So it's a no traffic area anyways. All these are in my basement (with a bulkhead, no walk out), and a PAIN to get down there! :)

No problem Outlaw :) I like it because it's different and as I mentioned above, I actually have access to the back. My friend that I bought it from worked in a car dealership many years ago, so the back was available to him as well. It's nice that it locks all three areas closed with the same key.

Well shoot, I claim a senior moment. I must have looked for a date stamp on this thing at least 4 times & now I see it:dunno:

Made in USA
W 8 - 81

I guess the *W* is for Waterloo
Glad you found it. I would think Waterloo hearing that they did make for craftsman. I'm learning myself with these vintage boxes. Now if I can just figure out the Kennedy machinist boxes branded as Craftsman with the crown logo.

Picked up this vintage Craftsman box this weekend at an estate sale. It went largely un-noticed by other shoppers and I could tell it was old but wasn't sure how old. It was pretty grimy but still had a little of the original Craftsman decal showing.
cf 1.jpgcf 2.jpgcf 3.jpg
When I asked for a price the lady running the sale said $5 and I did not argue. It had no tools in it unfortunately and I could tell it was missing some sort of tray. But rather it was full of old electrical boxes and hardware. Enough to equally be worth the $5 price.
After some online research at home I discover its a 1935 Craftsman box used to hold multiple sizes of socket sets. Here is what the contents should look like including the mini-box set of smaller sockets. Now I have to scour future sales to try and find the correct tray and sockets.
craftsman_12dr_socket_set_c-series_37pc_35_f6_cropped.jpg
After a bunch of gentle scrubbing with Simple Green some mink oil rubbed into the original leather handle and the rusty bottom sanded and covered in rust converter this is the semi restored result.
cf 5.jpgcf 6.jpgcf 7.jpg
I just need to see if I can find a match for the dark blue wrinkle finish paint to touch up the bottom and some edges that had rusted.
I really like this paint color and the decal style. I wish Craftsman would revive this with some vintage looking tool boxes.

I just can't stop buying these little old metal tool boxes with the leather handles. this one is in amazing shape and i'm guessing late 30's or 40's made?

i bought it's relative that has a Dunlap (Sears/Craftsman?) from a 95 year old client a few months ago that told me his was his first tool box when he went to work at Boeing after WWII.

anyway not much to do to this on except to decide what to fill it with. it's an SK so curious did they make their own boxes or did somebody else because the Dunlap looks like the same box and even the Craftsman looks fairly close?

pictures of my new SK box with tray and the 95 year old's with some of his old tools in it that was definitely used more.

Very nice collection of oldies. I can't resist them either and usually they go unappreciated at sales around here.

Posted this a few weeks ago in the toolbox thread. Thought it fit better here.
My dad had an old 1/2" SK set just like this and sadly most of it got ripped off 25 years ago.
Luckily, I had a few of his sockets, breaker bar and T-handle in my possession.
I happened across the same set he had last month and picked it up along with another rack of 1/2" SK sockets.
I am wondering if anyone might know the vintage of this set.
Is there anything missing? The sockets go from 7/16" up to 1 1/8" and are all knurled. There is a shorter extension next to the longer one. Hard to see in my pic.

I also have this old Kennedy 620 box. Most of them have 2 latches. Is the 1 latch something that was done in later years? Thanks for any help. Brad

LiveWire: your SK box looks like it might be 60's or 70's and if you can put a few sockets on their sides and take some close ups the SK experts that visit this thread might have a better answer.

RM: glad to hear you have a liking for those little carry metal toolboxes too. i'd much rather have 20 of them than a huge roller but they all have their place for different jobs.

ALL: by the way i picked up a little bigger toolbox today by Cornwall that should hold a lot of my tools i'm acquiring. of course i didn't know i needed all these tools until i joined GJ because some of them i wouldn't have a clue what they were used for. I should start a thread on tools that are very handy and their uses are not well known or is there already a thread going that does that?

now i know there is several different tools to use on different applications where i might have used a vise grip or some other tool for several jobs in the past or just hired the fix out.

is this Cornwall maybe a 40's box because it looks almost identical to one i have that is a 1943 Craftsman branded one. did Cornwell make these boxes or who made them????

I know cornwell tools started in 1914 or 15. dunno when they started offering toolboxes and who made them for them back than:dunno:

So, like most, for some time now I've been hoping for that outstanding buy of a roller or a top cabinet at a ridiculously low price. Well, here's one: a 1983, made in the good ol' US of A, Waterloo roller. I'm not one for stickers, but I may just keep that one; simply because my grandfather has had the same one on his tool box for as long as I can remember. I believe one of my uncles threw it on back in the seventies or early eighties. Anyways, with the exception of a tad bit of surface rust, everything looks fine, and works so. $10

However, I do need (4) of those black tabs that keep the drawers from sliding out too far. Any ideas where I can get some of those?
