Which way do you put your "pliers rack"

Just curious which ways people put their pliers rack. On the sides...in the back or front. Or maybe even split up in an L shape

I think I may move the rack to the front of the drawer. Not sure. How's everyone else have theirs???

at the front they slide every time I close it. With the new rack on the way though, I will probably be using front and back

That looks nice the way it is. Wish I had enough space for one.

Is it one that the GJ member makes?

No it's not...I actually bought it off the snap on truck. It's the "pliers rack" brand. Was kinda salty tho. If I remember it was 20-30 bux. Works nice tho.

Now that it's mentioned i could see the pliers sliding forward when the drawer is closed hard if it was in the front

I need to update this picture with the rest of the stuff I've added, but, two Plyworx PLR30 pliers racks, and nothing slides:

For $20, they simply can't be beat. You can trim them to fit, too, or to create two smaller ones if you need them.

Man, someone is a serious Channellock fan. Just curious, what's your take on the Code Blue stuff?

As to the OP's question, mine is in front. When I make another, I'll probably do it to the side.

Based on his picture, I don't think he cares for code blue very much :lol_hitti

I actually have mine along the sides of the drawer.
Front corners, left & right, so I can see what I am looking for, and grab them easily.

Tried along the back, either couldn't see tips, or couldn't grab handles easily. Along the front seemed to take up awkward amount of space (not full width of drawer... maybe need more pliers & racks!?)

Along the sides means I can still use rest of drawer for other things.

I have the rack Amazon sells. It's too big for my Craftsman 26" box so I cut it into one small and one large piece. The large piece is in the rear of the drawer and the small piece is in the front right corner for smaller pliers. The rest of my pliers just get piled in the empty space.

My main rack is at the back. It is a chrome bathtub rack that is used upside down. The high centre section rungs face forward and the lower side rungs on each side face sideways. This way the long stuff faces the front of the drawer and shorter tools go the other way on the sides. It is placed off centre so the real short tools are on the right and there is more room for mid sized pliers on the left. It helps that the snap on drawers pull all the way out of the cabinet so you can get at the tools in the back corners. The drawer is finished by placing CD holders in the 2 front corners.

This is another bath tub tray I picked up in the kitchen/bath section of a junk store. It is narrower than the one in use in the top photo and all rungs point the same way on it. They come with sliding extensions on the ends so they can be adjusted to sit on the end of any bath tub but I just pull those out and discard them. They are very solid units and can be had for $2-5.

:D

I don't own any of them, and have no hands-on experience with them, but I'm incredibly happy with the normal Channellock pliers - haven't seen the need to pay the premium for the fluffier handles on what appear to be the exact same pliers.

Hmm...I'm kinda liking the pliers up front now that I see some like that. I don't really think they will slide when the drawer is shut. Plus I wouldn't have to open it that far anymore to get a pair. My c clamps n that could be in the back where they are used less anyways

Which plyworx do you guys prefer? The magnetic one or the one that is like a rack? Do you feel you need to maybe tie it down somehow to the drawer so it doesn't move?

I'm concerned putting them in the back it either might be difficult to grab quickly or see which one I'm reaching for.

I'm going to be using it for the HF 44".

This is the way I have it now and it seems very inefficient use of drawer space

I've tried to maximize plier count and have two facing forward and one facing back. I've found that this allows good balance of the narrow/wide slots in the Plyworx racks, as well as a sensible tool layout.

Here's a shot before I got a bunch of pliers cleaned up and into the drawer. It is usually a fairly full drawer.

The PLR30 isn't magnetic at all - no need to tie it down/fasten it.

It doesn't slide in the drawer, but I do have liners.

It's vinyl coated, so I'd imagine that would, at least in some small way, minimize sliding on an unlined drawer, but even on something lined with cupboard liner (like the rolls cheap at Walmart), it's pretty stable.

Plier rack...aww hell what an idea! Guess I just found a way to free up some space. That means I'll be forced to buy some more tools..damn.
Definitely dig the thrift store bath piece idea.

Along the slides so the pliers don't slide out of the "front" rack.

I had them "across" the drawer but didn't like it.

The left hand rack is a cut down CD rack that works for larger pliers.

The right hand rack is the HF rules and threaded rod which is a favorite here on GJ.

Pic #2 is a piece of the CD rack I cut down to fit front to back.

Cheers

Jim

Genius. Definitely stealing this idea.

Mine is in the front of my main box and in the rear in the box at my parents house. It works better in the rear because it doesn't go the full width and the Kobalt drawer liners aren't perfect.

I like it in the front of my main box because most of the pliers there are comfort grip and it's easier to shut the drawer if I lean some of them to one side, so it's less of an issue if I have to try once or twice before closing. I have to redo that drawer anyway.

I do something similar, but a little different, I have them facing nose to nose and match the longer ones in the first row with the shorter ones in the second row, it works pretty well for me

Well now that it's been a week or so...I must say I like the rack up front. I don't need to swing the drawer open all the way n always reach in the back for the pliers. They don't slide forward either. Helps tho too that I have commercial carpet in the drawers
