Wilton C3 for $1? No? How about $2500?

Gotta love the Clist adds that list the price as a dollar then in the text say "make offer" with no real price. This guy has this vise listed in my local Clist just that way. It's been in there for weeks. Thought about calling just to see, but it's a ways away and didn't want to bother.

So as part of my daily Clist perusing I see an add for the same C3 in another town. Same guy, same vice, except in this add he elaborates more and hints the value is around $2500. No wonder it's been listed for so long. $2500?!

Anytime I see an ad for $1, I weight in on texting the poster and saying "yes, I'll buy the____ for a dollar" usually once a week I do it. Happened here once to. Then the poster wonders why he got all upset from the $1 offer. $1 is good nuff for Mickey dz...

I love when they say they don't make them like this anymore when we all know Wilton still makes the C3. I got a kick this week I saw in add for a vintage SO. It was a 20 year old krl 1001 with the tag line they don't make like boxes like this anymore.

I paid $425 for my old style C3 thats in like new shape and probably would have given the whole $500 he was asking. The new ones are in the Enco fler every day of the week for about $1450 plus freight. I think if you really wanted/needed one, it wouldn't be insane to pay $750 for a perfect vise, but this guy's is far from perfect. That's a $300-400 vise, tops, IMHO.

They don't make those C3 like that anymore with the jaws fastened from the outside. I think those jaws mounted like that are much better

I think the jaw mounting style is trivial. That alone does not call for list price on a used vise.

I wish the Wilton vise craze would calm down. It has spread to the masses, now everyone wants $500 for their vise with bent handles and broken jaws.

On ebay however, the Wilton craze has taken a lot of attention off the just-as-cool Parker/Reed/Athol vises, if you can find one with reasonable shipping.

I’ll tell you my opinion about the “Wilton Craze”. It’s because of the Wilton Bullet vise and their is no other way to explain it. I’ve been a collector and restorer of vise’s now for 8 years and since Wilton is going strong today even though they have been bought twice now from international owners, that name is grounded into people’s heads.
I’ve been to many of a estate sale and purchased different vise’s and had people ask me standing in line, “oh, is that a Wilton?” and I reply “it’s a Morgan-Chicago or a Parker, or a Prentiss or a Reed”
They have never heard of these brands because some no longer are in business, Reed and Morgan-Chicago which now is Morgan-Milwaukee (They moved some years ago) are still around but aren’t as big as Wilton.
Any vise with the name Wilton on it, whether it’s a home utility vise or the Bullet, people think they have the Cadillac of vise’s. Don’t get me wrong, the Bullet and even the Mechanics version of the Bullet are great vise’s, but all the rest are no more better or less than the other’s on the market that we’re made in the USA but most people don’t see it that way because they just know what they hear.
I myself will take an old Reed, Parker, Prentiss, Chicago-Morgan, Columbian, Yost and a Rock Island machinist vise to name a few over even a Bullet. They are that tough and are a bargain compared to a Bullet and even the lesser quality Wilton’s.
Keep in mind that Wilton isn’t the same company it once was. They were bought out in the 1990’s by one company which then on to buy Columbian which subsequently was purchased by the current company and started shipping all production to China including some of the Bullet’s. My time lime may not be entirely correct but it’s close.

Hope this helps.

I have enough vises for the rest of my life.

I would be in at $70-100 for a cleanish c3.

While I have no need… if I found another in good condition and at my price… I am sure as **** not leaving it for you guys.

There are so many vises out there. Once you have a vise or two or ten… once you get past the need and urgency… just bottom feed. This is the place that I am at in my life.

Lol for a cleanish C3?

Yeah at $120 or above I'd pass.

Did you really just revive a 7 year old thread to give your opinion.
