Plott Hound,

Sherwin Williams has a product called ArmorSeal Rexthane; a moisture cure urethane that holds up well on top of our stained concrete projects. It can also be applied to bare concrete. I would recommend applying 2 coats of this product.

The product may slightly "amber" the color of the concrete during application, but shouldn't yellow much over time. You should be able to get 4 or 5 years out of this product before needing to lightly sand and re-coat.

I hope this helps.

It is very scratch resistant, as long as you let it cure properly.

Out of all the clear coats that I use, Rexthane seems to cure the hardest.

Pros:
UV resistance
Chemical resistance
Scratch resistance
Longevity
Ease of application

Cons:
Slightly ambers during application, otherwise doesn't yellow over time
Curing time may be longer than what you can do
Being a urethane, the fumes can be quite intense

Another option would be to densify the concrete. This would involve several steps of grinding and polishing, though.

Bob,

No sir, no need to profile. I have applied this to smooth coatings that were clean and dry, and it bonded like glue. This product is also suitable for properly prepared steel, the pigmented version is more well known.

The first coat of Rexthane will soak in to the smallest of pores, and the second coat will bond to it. However, there is a clear primer available for this product. If you are worried about the product not having enough bite into your bare concrete, you could grind, prime, and then apply the product. With the amount of time and money it would take to do that system, I would recommend grinding, densifying, and polishing.

We consider this product the best choice if simply cleaning the concrete, and applying a clear coat.

I have used Euclid Super Diamond Clear on storage areas and in coolers on commercial jobs.

Rolls on, one part.

Need some ventilation during application, I wear a respirator.

Should be able to find at stores that sell concrete construction accessories.

More bad advice.
Absolutely have to prep your floor.
There are no short cuts with coatings.

That material can peel like Saran Wrap if not bonded properly.

after taking a long hard look at my oil and rust stained concrete floor I decided to go with rustoleum 5500 floor system.was not really going for looks, just wanted something durable and keep the dust down.im very happy with the way it turned out but rustoleums online calculator is way out of whack.i ended up with an extra 5 gallon pail.

Looking to do something with my old shop floor. Moisture wicks in the spring and just looking to improve the open door appearance. Suggestions welcome.
