I see an ad on CL for a "Cabinet Tool Box" ad has been edited since the first post now reads like this:
cabinet tool box - $300
Selling my new harbor freight pro 48 in cabinet tool box holds 2800 lbs great tool box. I have it full with about 800 lbs of tools and the drawers all open smoothly. Tool box locks and rolls perfect for the garage. $350 obo also have tools for sale don't contact me unless your a serious buyer box is in wixom.

I text the seller Friday with this:

Can you send pics of the box and tools? Thanks have a great night

I have pics of the ill send some of all the tools tomorrow every drawer is full

Sure thing no problem

Yesterday I get this text:

Selling toolbox for $300 (originally in the 1st ad it was $400)

Any pics of the tools?Box only at $300?

Keeping tools box only 300

I can do better than that with inside track club membership in the store. Thank you for your time.
(OK I am bluffing here just going by what I've read here on GJ)

W.e you think bye

You will spend 440

No coupon that is always available brings it to 359,inside track takes off another 20%($70) (Again bluffing, going by what I've read here)

But thanks anyhow

The box is 700 they only give you one coping and it takes it to 369,after taxes 440 let me know when you buy one

Now here in Michigan the sales tax is 6% or $369 +22.14=$391.14
In the seller's example tax rate would be 19 % :shocking:

If I was looking to pay full retail I would go into HF with the $359/$369 coupon,a 20% coupon and be prepared to purchase ITC and try to negotiate a deal with the manager.Possibly buying more than 1 to flip/recover cost of ITC.

a couple weeks ago I took my wife to HF(her 1st time there).
I was looking at something and there was a tag that said it was less w/ ITC membership. she asked me what that meant. I had never seen that before and had no clue.
quick and on the fly I said it's the itty-bitty ***** committee.
I still love it when she laughs at my jokes:thumbup:

Yes,you can use coupons on boxes. That is how I purchased mine,to fit under my weld bench to hold my air tools and nut/bolt supply.

Don't ask.
The seller can ask what ever they want. Might even be willing to drop the price a little.
Asking price of $300 still is approximately 25% off new, with coupons/specials. Maybe he paid full price.

I agree with you fully ,but I was planning to offer $200 and let him counter offer. That is gonna be impossible when he's got $440 in his head and isn't planning to deal off the $300. I can drive to my local HF and join the ITC and walk out with a new one on a pallet for $320 or so.

The ITC discount on tool boxes is a no-go at my store. I wouldn't necessarily count on it unless you know your store/manager policy.

weeeellllll, see that line in his ad, don't contact me unless a serious buyer? Bluffing around on prices and not knowing how much ya can or can't actually get it for is dicking around w/the guy. He was nice enough. that's how it goes.

no coupons on boxes in my area anymore. Really cracked down on it unfortunately...

one thing with hf, buying an assembled one is worth a few bucks in time and money to me because you can see everything work. Where I'm from in Wisconsin it's 140 miles round trip to hf. Really wanna unpackage something and find out there's a problem? not me

The serious buyer stuff and the $300 price was an edit to the ad I responded to.When I contacted him with the original ad read as it was $400 ,all the drawers had tools in them ,etc. That is how the conversation started.

The 20% off with the ITC will only work if you have a shady store manager who does not want to keep his job. It is against harbor freight policy and they will fire people for giving extra discounts (stealing from the company in their eyes). So I wouldn't count on getting that price.

Craigslist can be good and bad. I picked up 4 brand spanking new Cooper at3's that were 265/75/16's for 400 bucks. But it seems you come across more rip offs than good deals.
