That looks great Don; love the old school motif for sure.

The small projects can be addictive... probably because we get more attaboy's that way, LOL.

I've finally figured it out at my end; I now have 2 car restorations going (1 preprint and 1 post paint) and then a bunch of small projects like your signs acting as fillers in between.

I enjoy your posts and I need to find the time to share as well; wish I had your energy too.

Thanks for sharing such a cool part of your life!

I couldn't stand it any longer. After dinner tonite I went back out to the garage and pulled the masking paper off my ice cream sign

So tomorrow I will attempt to put the light sockets back in the sign

Don, I so enjoy reading your thread. Everything in your garage is just right for my era. I really enjoy seeing the old service station items. I am sure you have scoured the entire USA to find these items. That is great! Seeing these items that remind me of my growing up and teen years is fantastic. Better than any museum.
I want to thank you for being interested in preserving this history. Every time I come on your thread, I find something new and dear to my heart.

Job well done, my friend

Best Regards
Herb

welcome back Amazzen

Its been a while since we have heard from you.
You are right about the smaller projects. They aren't as strenuous and they are out of the way sooner and you still get that self satisfaction when they are finished.
Sharing is a huge part of the fun, and I'm glad that you enjoy sharing it with me.

you need some red on that sign, for the cherry's on top:D

BUGTHUG

I have been having that very thought.
A buddy came by last night and said it looks like an ice cream sandwich!
Man I can't wait to get this sign hung and lit up.

I'm glad that you found some time to come over for a visit Herb.
I'm pleased that your visits bring back good youthful memories for you.
I do catch myself wandering through the garage and and having flash backs of times that I would go with my Dad to the gas station and to the repair shop.
GREAT MEMORIES!!!

Like you I enjoy working with my tools.

Thanks for the visit

well I have something to show for the last couple of days playing out in the shop

I have the lights and glass in the ice cream sign!!
Next it needs some pinstriping and the box that makes the lights chase around the can Then it will get hung and another picture of it in place.

GORGEOUS!!!

Thanks Paul
One more lil project 90% done. Time to start on another one!! lol :willy_nil:willy_nil

do the letters light up?

BUGTHUG

Yes the letters have lights inside the can, and since the letters are white frosted, what ever color bulbs I put inside the can the letters will glow that color ie red bulb red glow etc.

What's in the "R" ?

Looks like the same thing that is in the "A".

Maybe it's something wrong with the camera????
Don,
This really is great work.

Vernmotor, mdbeck1

There is nothing wrong with the camera.
Since the letter "R & A" have areas surrounded by the glass, that area in each letter has a piece of tin screwed to the glass So I can paint the tin the same color that surrounds the outside of the letter (brown)
I didn't know this until I unwrapped the letters and what you see is the old paint from when the sign was blue

Thanks for the complement I'm happy to see this project coming to a close
It should look pretty good hanging above the general store

don

Great work, but you need a bigger shop for all those projects, if that's possible.

Thanks AK
But what I really need is fewer projects, which means (Quit buying new projects and get some of the ones I've started finished)

Don,
I'm pretty sure you're not the only one with that problem. If it weren't for my unfinished/unstarted projects I could be living a pretty guilt-free life.

Yes Bob
It's that guilt factor that makes me start several new projects within a short period of time and it is this illness that I have that forces me to buy anything with potential of restoration

So what's a guy like me to do??? :lol_hitti

I would not call it an illness, rather a gift. You have a great talent and it appears you enjoy it. So keep us keep us entertained with your next projects and I have room to store them. Lol
As Bob said, a lot of us have projects waiting to be done. Opportunities to grab a good deal are getting scares.

Wow that Ice Cream sign looks great! I couldnt help notice the Polarine sign though, that would be great in my Standard Oil collection! :bounce:

bashr52
The picture that you saw was my sign the day I found it. the Polarine sign belongs to a buddy of mine who has a 7 digit $$$ sign collection that sign isn't going anywhere soon. :dunno:

Thanks Lee but no thanks
No reality show for me.
The sign has hangers on each end that hook over a pole and I have a pole above the country store that a coke sign is hanging from now

See below

The only issues with hanging the sign is the electrical
I need to see how big the light controler will be

I have been having GJ withdrawals for the last 5 days.
I went on a road trip to Missouri to pick up a couple new signs for the party garage.
It was a fun trip. My neighbor jumped in my truck saturday morning and by nightfall we were in New Mexico and Sunday night we camped out in Oklahoma City, by noon Monday we had the signs loaded on the trailer and headed back home All side roads, no major freeways. Through all the small old towns and past all the farms along the way. (This country looks so much better away from the freeways)

The Sinclair pole and sign and a Fina 6' sign they took off the wall for me

I'm jealous, call me next time you go on a road trip:D
The Orange Crush sign, is it a sign or box? It's kinda hard to tell. Nice ebay shopping spree

Jeff
I'll have to do that they can be a boat load of fun when you have no time restraints

The orange crush sign is a flange sign I hung it on the country store post and you can see the ever ready battery sign in the lower left corner

What part of Missouri did you get to? That looks like a sign I was trying to buy several years ago from a small town outside of Springfield about 40 miles , close to Boliver? How did you find that, off of e-bay? looks great, I always like the Sinclair dino its iconic all over the place.

Herb

That is the sign you wanted. I bought it from a shop in Boliver and the owner said it came from a station about 10 miles away and that a farmer bought the station and sat on the sign until his death and the family sold it to the store

Good call

Man is it a small world or what? Well enjoy the sign and at least think about me:bounce: If I remember right it came from a old MFA (like a co-op) farm store/gas station/grain elevator. I bet its been over 7 years, I didn't forget about it,its just I never had a chance to go back thru there.
All my family was from around that area, my aunt lived in Hermitage about 30 miles north of Bolivar, and my mom was in a retirement home. I would go and visit them and somehow came across that sign after stopping in and get gas. The guy didn't want to sell at the time but was going to contact me when they did? I guess they lost my number or? But my mom died about 7 years ago then my aunt died a short time after, so I didn't have a reason to go back down there. But I happy to see that sign again, brought back memories:thumbup:

Don, awesome place! You've done a great job and all your hard work shows. About the only thing I haven't seen (and I know you must have one) is an old air meter or tireflator (probably behind something in one of the pics)

Thank you for sharing.

You know Wally
That is the one thing that I haven't found yet. I'm looking for the one that has a real type hose built into the unit with a round glass ball on the top that has A I R printed on the glass. They are SOO expensive when you see them!!!

Thanks for the visit

Thats kind of you to offer everyones services to me!!
I will have to ponder just what I am looking for a bit cause I don't know that I want something until I happen to see it for the most part.

In the back of my mind I have wanted a walker floor jack but never really put much effort into finding one, and for some unknown reason I was nosing around craigs list and found one tonite about 1 hour away from me, made the call and it is now in the back of my truck. Just so happens the seller is a GJ guy (Mohawk Dave) We had a good chat and now I have another project. I will take you up on your offer I will have to decide what I really want first

Thanks Coby

Hi there Don,

It was a pleasure meeting you tonight. You weren't kidding about your garage- I just spent several hours reading this thread. What an awesome labor of love! You were in my humble little shop, and I have untold man hours into it; I can only imagine what you have into yours.

Keep the great story and pics coming, and let's see that Sinclair sign once it's up.

Have a great day! - Dave

Nice score on the signs Don, i have been tossing up on a sinclair sign for a while that is located about 2 hours away from me, it is 8 foot double sided but is missing the pole. He wants almost $2000 for it and the condition isn't as good as yours as it has a couple of bullet holes. If i ever find an air meters on craigslist or ebay and so on i will let you know. Anyway keep up the great work Don.
