I just got in the mail today the Craftsman 10 pc. Flare Nut Wrench Set with BONUS 16 X 18 mm Wrench. It is great quality set and USA made stamped V^(2nd V inverted). I took it over to my neighbors house to compare to his Snap On set and I noticed I am missing a 1/4 x 5/16. My neighbor is a mechanic and told me that you need it when working on brakes. I searched online for a long time and it looks like they never made that wrench in the same finish as my set. Everything I saw is the newer Chinese full polish set or a single full polish in 1/4 x 5/16. I would like to get the same finish if possible. Does anyone know if Craftsman ever made a Raised Panel 1/4 x 5/16 Flare Nut? And how can you tell if the single full polish would be USA made before ordering? Are all singles usually USA made? Because for only a $1 more I can get a full standard set that has the missing wrench I need. Here are some links.

I'm not sure I've ever used a 1/4 or even a 5/16 wrench when doing bakes, except maybe on the bleeder, of which i use a 6 point wrench. If you think you need it, look under your car and see what sizes the brake line are. Chances are, it is a wrench you really don't need.....

No sorry. I got it at paul b Zimmerman hardware. I wanted to 1/4 size and the 5/16 end is six pint as opposed to my proto 5/16 flare nuts 12 point. Here's one on amazon:

Thanks for the link. I may try the Craftsman Full Polish single. From everything I can see it will probably be SK made.

I have a lot of tools that I got thinking I may use them one day. Usually that day comes within a few years. I may get it anyway. But good point on using a 6 point wrench for the bleeding. I have plenty of those.

Craftsman flare nut wrenches are not for the OCD type. I pieced together my set of USA RP's and the same thing happened and I wound up finding the 1/4x 5/16 in polished pro version. Makes sense afterward knowing it is S-K made, hence the reason it was available in polished. I don't think I've used it either.

I figure one day 10 years down the road I will be happy I got it. Got to get USA while we can. There is a limited supply left. Even it won't match the others at least it is craftsman and US.

Just a FYI, Craftsman never offered a 1/4"x5/16" flare nut wrench in the raised handle variety. Just was only offered in the full polished professional and now full polished Chinese made flare nut wrenches.

A Sears I visit on occasion had 3-4 USA made wrenches in this size still on the peg last time I was there. The other area stores either don't carry them or have Chinese ones. I probably won't get back up there for a month or so, but might be able to pick one up for you if they have any left.

Thanks, for the offer. I should know by the end of the week if the one I get is US made.

Yeah, I need your help if you don't mind. I can PayPal you the money if you can still get it. I will keep looking until you get a chance to get back up there. It is possible that they can ship it store to store if you know the location of the store. I can ask my store to order it from them. Thanks for your help.

Today when I went to pick it up after waiting a week it was the same Chinese one you get in the kit. For $20 I can buy a whole set of Chinese and not just one wrench. So I took it back as soon as I picked it up. It didn't even say Craftsman Professional but I ordered Professional.

Thanks for letting me know about the RP not having a 1/4 x 5/8. I ordered the Professional but they gave me the Chinese. :(
