I have a 14mm bolt that is holding my rear motor mount in place. But its right next to the steering colum/shaft. So i can only fit a wrench in, but i dont have a long 14mm. Autozone has this serp belt tool as a loaner tool. This paired up with a crowfeet would be pretty much a breaker bar wrench idea for me.

This is on a Mitsubishi lancer. I barely have room to slide in a normal socket, so a breaker bar wouldn't do. My cheater pipe is about 4 foot long and no room to break anything free. The bar has to go from the top right next to the firewall and there still lines and hoses in the way. I think that bar should be roughly 2 feet and should just give me enough wiggle room.

I'm too weak to try and break it loose. :dunno:

Anyone have other ideas?

It should be more then strong enough to move s belt tensionor. Once you over come spring pressure, a tension or should move easy. If not, you have other problems.

He's not thinking of using it on the tensioner. Rather a motor mount bolt that he has limited access to.

I have tried to use that same belt tool in the manner you're thinking. It snapped the square drive off before the bolt even thought of moving.

They are not made to handle that much torque.

I apparently skimmed the OP a little too much and missed the point of the post. Without looking at said bolt, I'd try getting a torque adapter down to it and with a u joint, run a long extension up to where I could get a ratchet on it. That or heat, bend or weld a wrench to work.

Id be more worried about trying to break it loose with an open end crows foot than the bar breaking. I would buy a cheap long 14 mm wrench from amazon or something if you want to do it on the cheap. If not invest in the long box wrench set.

this is the exact situation why i have Harbor Freight wrenches along side my SO/Mac ones.

that serpentine belt tool will fail and possibly cause some damage to the engine in its failure

So sounds like you might have some time to get a longer wrench.:D

As said before, HF has a long set for cheap ($25) or Gearwrench has their XL crossbeams on Clearance for about the same (SAE, but the 9/16" will work in place of 14mm).

Do you not have space to double up two combos to break it loose? Or just take the time to disconnect the steering shaft?

Couldn't get a good angle to double up two combos. Right before the shaft is the two hard PS lines.

I'll swing by local HF and see what they got. I just have the normal craftmans combo.

Do those x beam things actually work or just a marketing idea.

Take a 14mm combo wrench and cut the open end off. slip the remaining wrench inside the right length piece of pipe. now you have a long reach 14mm box wrench.

Could you get a 6 pt. wrench on it and then take a combination wrench and put the open end over the shaft of the 6 pt at about 90 degrees? Then whack the end of the combination wrench with a hammer to break it loose?
