Do these Craftsman Pro wrenches appear bent?

I bought this set used, most of the wrench lay flat but these have an arch in the center. Seems strange that 3 wrenches in the set would bend, could they have been made that way (defective) from the factory? Let me know if you see it or I am just crazy.

This is the 1" and it lays flat:

Here is the 15/16" and you can see the arch under the wrench:

Here is the 7/8", same thing:

And here is the 5/8", a little harder to see it in this pic, the rest appear OK:

Are they all the same manufacturer?

I've got a craftsman pro marked with a "k". It is different than the others.

All mine are also marked USA.

They were made that way. I have a small pile of USA Craftsman Pro wrenches I bought new on closeout before the last Sears in Seattle closed, due for ebay in a few weeks, and a few of them have bent beams like yours. I have some crappy photos somewhere on a gizmo. This issue's been mentioned a couple times here.

I agree, turn them back in and get your money's worth!

Good luck! The Sears stores around me are closing out the Pro wrenches, and pickings are slim. Do it sooner rather than later, and you might be able to find USA-made replacements that aren't bent. The stores around here don't/didn't stock Professional singles over 1" or 19mm.

I have the 14 PC Craftsman Industrial full polished wrench sets that were clearanced at the Sears Outlets a couple years ago. Supposedly the Pro's and the Industrials are the same except for the engraving. Each of my sets has at least three or four wrenches that look slightly bent like yours. No big deal to me. They still function great!

Craftsman is at the peak right now! They are getting products from China now just like MAC Tools, Bluepoint etc. They are just following the leaders, they Still have great stuff.

Having personal experience upon menial failures of Craftsman tools, manufactured in China, I will disagree with you respectfully.

My glory days with Craftsman, are indeed behind me.

I think there was a bit of sarcasm in that post.

Anyway, if the wrenches otherwise perform their task, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure many of my wrenches aren't perfectly straight either, but unless they're bending when I'm working on something, it is just a very minor cosmetic defect.

My set has arc to a few of them like yours new when I got them.

Hard to say whether or not you are crazy, but they look bent to me. LOL I'm guessing that won't affect performance, so your call on what to do.

to be fair, some of those larger sizes all I use them for is cheaters - hook the box end over the open end of the fastener you're busting loose... that'll put a bend in 'em after a while but then again I haven't noticed any bending in my used and abused SK set. Probably trust those more than even snappy for that kind of abusive use as they have much more meat in the beams.

Yeah, I probably ought to pop for a set of the Snappy extra long double box end wrenches... but there's just one problem...

The china line of Mac is pradominently Expert brand line by Stanley. And most Mac dealers have complained enough about sales dropping do to outside mnf. they are trying to bring some back. My mac guy showed me the Email.
BluePoint has been a brand that relables products, for sale under SO branch. Has been that way for a long time.

Matco does it aswell. Not just the matco stuff, there silver eagle line aswell.

Cornwell aswell. Just letting you know.


But op, a couple wrenches, from diffrent brands i have are like that. They still work good.

Well, I appreciate the feedback. I have a local Sears which still has the Pro wrenches on closeout, which is why I asked. I was thinking of selling this set anyway, so I may do just that and put these wrenches behind me. Anyone want a set of 1/4' - 1" pro wrenches?

I don't think that was deliberate, but it looks like they were bent when they were stamped. Many years ago when I bought mine, the arch of them bothered me, so when a friend was telling me how much he liked them, I gave them to him. Ken.

I got one performance tool wrench that looks like a f-ing boomerang (indian wrench). I think it's from shipping or storage damage. Of course those are like 50 cents a piece not these but it apparently can happen with the longer wrenches and I doubt it would pass muster at the factory so it had to happen after the fact.

Tools can bend like that when they are quenched after heat treat. This could indicate sloppy heat treatment. I feel it is an indication of low quality.

If those are Chinese wrenches, the 1" is the one that looks odd to me.
