I bought this for 150$:

And it's hard wired for one speed. Is there a fan controller I can get at one of the big box HD/Lowes to control this thing at L,M,H different speeds?

I don't believe so. If it was a multi speed motor it would have multiple taps for each speed.

You have my attention. Does that work on a single speed motor? I'm not very familiar with single phase motors....

Call Grainger and give them the speed controller part number and the fan part number. They will tell you if they are compatible. The fan needs to be speed controllable. Get the answer from the horses mouth.

Pretty much any fan speed control rated over 1.8 amps would work. It would work but lower the lifespan of the motor if you keep it on the lower settings

X2. That looks like a Shaded Pole motor, but on PSC motors It can kill the run cap pretty quick, too...
