Great job so far! I can't believe the change after painting the metal garage door pieces. Such a small detail made a huge difference. Also, I like the shelves being left unpainted. I feel like it kind of carries the natural look up from the box tops. Makes everything flow

I decided the mounting height based on the amount of wall height I had, along with proportionality to the tool boxes. This resulted in my inability to reach the highest shelf without a little stepstool (and a bit of difficulty without a step for even the middle shelf). I was ok with this as I intend on storing less-used things up there. I am happy with the height as it 'fills' the 10' tall wall pretty well; if I made it lower, I feel that the gap between tool box top and cabinet bottom would be too small and sort of claustrophobic-feeling if working on the tool box surface, plus the wall area above the wall cabinets would be too empty. You can always temporarily mount them on the wall to see how it feels; the holes you'll create will be behind the cabinet eventually anyway.

The tool boxes are 42" high. The Wall cabinet is about 25" above the top of the tool boxes. I intend on filling the wall space between the two with a pegboard.

That's good to know! For some reason I missed your response, and went ahead and hung mine about 28" over my workbench. That butted the cabinets against my 8' tall ceiling. Did you use a bracket to attach your shelves to the cabinet? I couldnt tell by the picture, but I feel like I see some sort of bracket.

Fantastic transformation.

Thanks for the feedback!

The shelves are from Ikea. The metal ends cap the board, while providing mounting holes that are drilled down to the OSB backing. So no, the end caps are not attached to the wall cabinets, though they may look so because the spacing is pretty slim and I aligned it according to the wall cabinets. Look up Ikea Bjarnum brackets and you'll see what I mean.

Sounds like you have similar height of wall cabinet placement as mine. I have approximately 2.5ft of space above the wall cabinets to my 10' ceiling. Changes the look of the space in a good way, don't they?

Not too much has been done recently, but still a few updates to post.

Technically not part of the garage, but I consider my shed critical in keeping the garage tidy, so I'm including a couple pictures of before and after.

Before:

After my homemade shelving brackets and scrap wood from shelving/old desks

Still not super tidy, but it frees up a ton of floorspace and I can actually get to things now

Put up a tire rack

The current look

A couple glam shots

Your spacing looks great! I had a hard time deciding how far apart I wanted my 2 cabinets and how high to put them, but seeing yours gave me the confidence that I was making the right decision! Good job! How far apart are your cabinets, 2'?

I am about to update my thread showing some Slatwall in my shed, so check it out... Slatwall is low cost and a lot more sturdy than pegboard, you may like it... For $80 I bought two sheets of board and over 250 accessories.

The cabinets are just under 2', like 22 inches. I went with the width that would accommodate the stereo receiver without it being too narrow/too wide.

Thanks for the suggestion...however it looks like your photobucket account has run out of bandwidth to see all the pics in your thread, including the slatwall ones. I will certainly look into that option, as to be honest, I'm not 100% set on pegboard as I want something more 'finished' looking, and slats may be a good option.

Also, I noticed you also have an S197 Mustang and an older A4 (ours is a B5 1.8T), which is our current stable :)
