Who sells Central Machinery Parts?

I bought Central machinery's 13" bench drill press on Craigslist and how was I to know you can't get parts for it. The set screw on the motor pulley assembly came off and enlarged the hole in the pulley. I called the number on the owner's manual and they told me the part is no longer available and their suggestion was for me to buy the brand new 13" drill press from Harbor Freight. I've checked Ebay and numerous other places with no luck. Anyone have any suggestions on where I can get the 4 step pulley that I need? The pulley assembly has these dimensions:

1. 2" tall
2. Smallest pulley's outside diameter is 1-11/16"
3. Largest pulley's outside diameter is 3-3/8"

See if harbor freight sells a new version of it and buy parts for that item number. They don't cross reference items but a lot of the time old and new versions will use the same parts.

MSC would also sell replacement pulleys (sheaves). Grainger too, but unless you have a tax ID (business) they don't seem to want to deal with you. I have bought many things from MSC and they have been great to me.

McMaster-Carr. They will sell to individuals. You'll need the bore size and belt width to get the right one. I'm sure they will have something that will work. If they don't have it you don't need it.

Post a picture of the damage. It is probably repairable.

I think he means the bore of the pulley is enlarged. in any case, some one oh here could repair it for him, if he can't find a replacement

First place I tried was Harbor Freight and they told me they don't carry any replacement parts for their drill presses. I also tried Home Depot with no luck. The set screw hole is still intact. The screw somehow got loose and worked out of the threaded hole. Then the motor shaft kept spinning and the shaft hole in the pulley got bigger. That's why the pulley assembly spins wobbly because there's too much clearance between the hole and the motor shaft. Harbor Freight's the one who told me to contact Central Machinery and CM told me they don't carry the replacement pulley that I need.

You should still be able to fix it. It will need to be rebored on a lathe and then have a sleeve made. The sleeve goes on the shaft and then the pulley on the shaft. If it is a keyed pulley (which it doesn't sound like) you will need a new keyway put in the pulley and then a new elongated key made. If the set screw was the only thing keeping it from spinning you just need to make sure that a hole exists for the set screw to go through the sleeve and make contact with the motor shaft.

I don't have a lathe and I wouldn't know how to use it. I have another question that's starting to bug me a lot. Why are some vendors selling tools that they can't provide replacement parts for the stuff they sell? I can go to Harbor Freight today and take off the pulley I need from a drill press in their showroom and it'll fit in my drill press, but both FH and Central Machinery can't get me the replacement part I need. I've read a lot of bad reviews on the $800 professional grade Craftsman radial arm saw that you can buy today. Aside from tons of complaints on this tool, several people who bought the saw recently are also having the same problem I'm having with my drill press. You can still buy the arm saw from Sears today, but he's been told that certain replacement parts are no longer available and now he's stuck with an expensive tool that he can't use. I'm retired and I like to tinker in the garage making things. Can anyone recommend a good reliable drill press brand I should consider? I want at least a bench size, 3/4HP and 5/8" chuck.

Rogue fabrication in Oregon makes aftermarket pulleys for those machines. I am sure they would be happy to make a custom one if you called them.

This is the best solution if the pulley has not been compromised.

Do you have that size now with the HF unit? The most popular chuck is 1/2" so you may have to find that chuck or buy a much larger DP.

Old Craftsman and Deltas are good hobby machines and can be found used readily. Just check the spindle for wobble but you can get parts like spindle bearings.
