We had a lightning strike hit a tree, 40' from the house and about 20' from our well. My wife actually saw sparks come out of a CGFI outlet right in front of her.
The well pump's control box was blown open. I replaced the control box later that afternoon and was lucky enough to have the pump turn on.
Three weeks later, the pump stopped running. I figured it was time to replace it, when I found that one of the legs of the circuit was grounding out. I rented a cable finder, brought the excavator to the site and found the break.
So far there's about 20 grand worth of damage.
