I find myself often fighting to remove connecting rod bolts in a tight crankcase, breaking them loose is the easy part, backing out the 2 inches of threads is the annoying part. All I need an air ratchet for is to spin out the bolts once they are broke loose. I was thinking a simple 3/8 drive would work best since it's small enough to use in a tight spot but big enough to turn a bolt with a 1" head with ease. Should I just spend $35 at lowes for a cheapie? Or should I spend $100 bucks on something better and quieter? I can honestly say I never needed one before and never looked at them either.

Most air ratchets are gutless and only good for what you want it for and nothing else, but only if the bolt/nut is rust free. (Mine could not even back out caliper mounting bolt even after they were broke free.) Stay cheap.

You might check CL. Probably get a like new one for half of that.

I lived with my IR standard ratchet for years (20 to be exact) until I bought a Snap on this year. The SO is fantastic, but just be careful because it's a beast and can really get away from you if you don't hold it tight.

My advice- spend good money once instead of half the money thrice.
