When it absolutely has to be the baddest tool on the block and no one manufactures it-

MODIFY IT!!! (or "hack it")
These are really great conversation starters; or extremity eliminators...

That belongs on the thread of awesome! Just needs proper belt guards (but I can understand them being off for dramatic effect in the picture).

Seems like a great way to get a power saw in remote locations. Starting it up everytime to make single cuts would get old though

Nice color match with the Ridgid miter saw and the Stihl chain saw. Looks like it was meant to be.

Is the old electric trigger now the throttle? That would be pretty cool...

Totally awesome!! Does look like they used a cable extender for the throttle to give it the "gas". :3gears:

Amish engineeruity is strong. They also do the same thing with air driven motors. Some bishops will let you have a diesel air compressor, but not a diesel gen set.

That’s very creative and cool. Question is, why not just use a generator for all the power tools that require a cord and plug? That just seems extremely noisy and troublesome.

Great job though for what it is, I guess… :lol_hitti

The Amish have very strict rules about "electricity"- regardless of its source. But tend to be a little forgiving about "other forms" of power/energy.

Rotation is reversed in the gearbox on the side of the blade. Note that the chain driven pulley does not line up with the center of the blade. The pulley is offset by about and inch or so hiding the gearbox.

A friend of mine was telling me how he recently saw an Amish workshop where they have converted new and late model stationary woodworking equipment to be belt driven. This only further proves that theory. Fascinating.

I think that is a well designed and executed conversion.

I agree unless they somehow they reversed rotation on the motor that the saw blade would turn backwards.

No, the chainsaw motor spins the same direction as the bolted on electric motor because...
