Removing older snapon drawer slides

I recently picked up a couple of early 1960s SO boxes, top and bottom, for a restore. For the life of me I can't get the slides out. I've tried a small hacksaw blade bent a little but no-go. Any tricks to it?

The threads I've seen here refer to a youtube or vimeo video that is now marked private so I can't see it. If there are some good posts with detailed pics on how to do it I'd be glad to see them. Thanks!

I had the same problem. Boxes from 1974 with friction slides. I used an allen wrench to remove mine. If I remember correctly, it was 2.5 mm. Found this information in a GJ thread, which I cannot put my finger on right now.

I found the link :

how to remove snap on friction drawers?
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9832

Piper (third entry in thread) : "I found a 3/32 allen key slid down against the drawer allowed the "catch" to not "catch" allowing the drawer to come fully out."

Thanks guys. So far I've been able to get one drawer out of the top box with a coat hanger. Man, this is tough going, I've got to get some sheet metal cut...

Yes, I owe pics. I'm documenting along the way and will have a restoration thread before long. Meanwhile here are some pics of the top box. Not terrible for $40 I think? :dunno:

Plenty of surface rust and grime but the stripdown is underway and solid metal underneath.

I just snipped a piece of thin duct sheet and stabbed it in. Worked great.

I wonder if that was the one in concord...

Anyways, yeah the hacksaw thing doesnt really work on those thinner slides. I'm actually using a thin kabob iron thingy to get mines out.
