Wage we need to set up one for Carlyle tools.
Since there putting out service carts that look like Matco's, along with impact guns, and hex screwdrivers that look like s&k/matco style.
When i work on monday, i'll grab the napa shop catalog and do some hunting.

And isn't the Mac bolstered scraper set(PKES3PTB), and Snap-On( PKNC300) the same, besides the striking caps size?

So far the only Carlyle crossover has been the MAC/Corwell 100T roto ratchets. I'm sure there are more, since they have the same air tool manufacturer as Matco (as well as everything else Matco and MAC have been outsourcing).

As far as service carts and tool storage; That's something I definitely want to expand on, since most service carts are available through other companies, and even the MAC/Proto boxes where the only difference is the badge stuck to the front. Just need to dig up some part numbers.

Okay so I messed up and posted on the stickied thread but I have the following info:

Matco has all their holesaws, holesaw arbors, holesaw kits and cutoff wheel arbor made by the M.K. Morse company in canton ohio. I know cause I used to work there. Pretty sure they make their hacksaw blades and reciprocating blade as well.

Matco has their Allan bit sockets made by wright tool.

I may be wrong on this, but it looks to me like the ATD-277 117 piece tap and die kit is the same as the Irwin/Matco/Snap-on/Mac/Cornwell 117 piece kit. It looks like at some point the blow-molded case changed. If it is the same set, it's significantly cheaper than even the Irwin.

ATD
Irwin
Matco
Snap-on
Cornwell
Nesco

NOTES:
Currently, I will continue to leave off other "Industrial" brands (Williams, Armstrong) since the majority of their tools are only available in more expensive truck brand versions.
I've bought more than a dozen tools, thanks to this list thread. Thank you.

I looked into this a bit, and I believe the ATD and Nesco sets are overseas made vs the USA made Irwin sets. If anyone is able to confirm or deny that's the case, I'd appreciate it.

Awesome to hear, and glad everyone was able to help!

Also, just about all of the testers (compression, fuel injection, leakdown), etc. that you see on the "big guys" tools trucks are typically made by Starr-Hoffman/A&E Tool Company. Used to be in Lindenhurst (LI), NY, but now moved to Racine, WI.

They also make the "S" circle tools for Sears (A&E did) and for a while, the Sears Craftsman ratcheting wrenches.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to look into some part numbers to get on the list.:

Holesaw Arbors:
Matco number..........morse number
HSM24K.……….……M24K
HSMPD4…….……MPD4
HSM45P...........M45P
HSM44N...........M44N

Holesaw kits:
Problem with these is Morse packages special kits for matco that are slightly different from the ones morse offers. The numbers I am providing are close but not exact matches
HSV7K.............AV05M.....arbor is different. Morse kit does not have M44N.
HSVK13K..........AV100 or AV08E

We were also making holesaws for RIDGID,Makita,ACE and several other companies when I worked there.

Hacksaw Frames

MATCO MORSE
HS14----------HHBF04

The kicker to this is that Morse buys them from someone else and resells them to Matco. I am not sure who the "true" manufacturer is.

Hacksaw blades
Matco Morse
HSB12H--------HHB1224T10 (24 TPI. 10 pack part #)
HSB12HS-------HHB1232T10 (32 TPI. 10 pack part #)

Single holesaws
Matco Morse
HSV10--------AV10
HSV12--------AV12
HSV14--------AV14
HSV16--------AV16
HSV18--------AV18
HSV20--------AV20
HSV22--------AV22
HSV24--------AV24
HSV26--------AV26
HSV28--------AV28
HSV32--------AV32
HSV36--------AV36
HSV40--------AV40
HSV48--------AV48

I'm looking for a specific tool, made in USA, a truck tool equivalent.

a cooling system pressure tester , the hand pump style, with heavy duty truck cap adapters but also automotive adapters. If anyone can recommend me anything it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Both are old as the hills (actually just late 70's I believe) but:

Matco BR8N ratchet is identical to the Husky CB-45 except for the shape of the direction lever.
Even the guts interchange. I have one of each, and swapped the guts just to see. Did that 30+ years ago, and both still work fine.

So, choose this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Matco-3-8-D...1609771378&pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&vxp=mtr

Or choose this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VTG-HUSKY-C...465?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a96c57a49

or even this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Husky-3-8-D...315?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43cfe584eb

Some of those "Williams" tools are considered to be obsolete Snap-On tools, not exactly an equivalent.

I know this was discussed in years past, but I wonder how many of the OEM tools have slight variations -- maybe they’re significant or maybe they’re not. But it’s not unheard of for a company who contracts with an OEM to call out certain specifications in a tool that the OEM “house” brand might lack. That’s just something to be aware of. Whether it’s different material, different construction, modifications, parts, etc. Again, may or may not be a big deal, but just something to be aware of. I’ve seen a few examples where guys thought they were getting the same thing but there were differences in material and construction that really affected the price.

Case in point would be Western Forge adjustables... Big difference between the Craftsman and Proto.

Most people ignore the "made to spec for xyz" part and just declare it the same when it may not be...

Pray tell what are the differences between the Craftsman and Proto? I have the Craftsmans and think they are really nice.

The jaws, I have a 10" and 12" in both. Dimensionally the same and look identical. The jaws are much tighter on the Proto and where the edges of the jaws on the Craftsman version have started to round over the Proto's are still sharp square edges. Both have about the same amount of use on them now.

The jaws are ever so slightly out of parallel on Craftsman also (There may have been a pipe involved) but the Proto's are fine with the same treatment. The Proto's also have clik-stop which is really nice. Both have the same WF stamped in the handle.

EXDMS48 48pc Master Extractor Set - Irwin 3101010

Is not a direct equivalent the Snap-on set uses a spline extractor this Irwin set uses the standard twisty type extractors.

I think there was a rep from Armstrong on here a while ago -- maybe around the time that they were making the toolkits for US Service vehicles. Anyway, he mentioned some ways in which certain sockets “made by the same people” might differ. That is, material or treatment of material in addition to other things. Again, maybe minor differences for many.

This is awesome. Someone should compile this and make a phone app so you can get on these tool trucks and laugh at the driver when he quotes you.
"Yea right Dooood. $55 for an $8 Stanley hammer."
