I did not buy anything - but there was shelving, workbenches, tire and car wash equipment, GM dealer tools and service manuals, several Curtis clippers for older car keys, GM pin kits and keyblanks, and lots of junk. Not sure why they did not just have an auction, I think a lot of stuff will be trashed.

Keep an eye on their dumpster. It sounds like a perfect opportunity to go dumpster diving, unless they call a metal scrapper.

I'm usually not a fan of Ryobi (for many reasons), but even I have to **** it up and admit that that's a cool case.

In hindsight I could have done without the Williams sockets since some of them are actually hex key holders that don't actually have the hex key parts in them. There was a 1/4" Snap On extension and a brand new Craftsman adjustable wrench in the box too so I guess I can't complain.
SNIP

Actually that has a good use; get some extra hex L keys and cut them off long, and refill those. Then you have an extra reach set. Or do the same with some ball end keys.

Lots more scores guys! Well done!

Jake that is definitely an unusual pair of slip joints!

Sort of an odd day for me some tools but quite a bit of non tools also:

First stop was on my own street. Probably missed some stuff because this was day 2...
Wiss A18 Snips, 4 clamps, and an old Stanley chalk line. Two bucks, so a nice start!

attachment.php

Two more bucks elsewhere for 2 Indestro sockets, a pair of Cue Scissors, Plvmb & Thorsen DOEs, and a pair of AutoKit Combos.

attachment.php

a buck for this Clamp on 2 speed fan; the eldest daughter unit cleaned it and put it to quick use. (we are in a mini Heat wave here)

attachment.php

I got something that cools so here is something that heats: A small Coleman camp heater - $3

attachment.php

$5 on these Bose 301's; these will get cleaned up and sold, to fund the habit.

attachment.php

and 2$ for a pair of Krauter Needle nose and Mini Lineman's pliers, marked Clean Cut, and with what looks like a cloverleaf

attachment.php

A bit more to come.

I also found SWMBO 3 Reverware pots with lids in very nice shape for $5 she put them in the dishwasher so fast I never got pics of them. 3 sizes for a fiver...

At another place these two blue bottles, ( she collects this stuff) $4

attachment.php

One place I bought a cardboard box with "Stuff" in it for a buck and a half, and also got some from there "free" pile...

The locks were in the free stuff in a junk filed plant pot, with the keys and this other stuff. JEFF! The larger pile are all keyed alike based on the codes, and the other three are also alike, but different from the larger pile.

attachment.php

Jeff, If I get you the codes, can you get me a couple of those keys made? I'll trade you the three matching locks for them. Is that a reasonable trade?

Also in the buck and a half box was the Charger, a 4 inch 90 duct fitting tape a power strip (not shown), the Wood pegs & hole covers. Included was a newish moving box. That duct fitting plus a 4" round vent and some 4" flex ducting someone gave me last week will get a small branch line in to my small garage workroom for winter heat. :pimpflash

attachment.php

And then there is the odd little Mini Iron. Not sure what it's intended use was. maybe heat activated patches? :dunno:

Some really nice scores this week guys, Red Bull that road find is great!

I just hit a couple of my regular stops this morning, the first was a re-pick of last week trying to find the missing pieces of a Snap-on puller set I bought.

First pic: Fifteen piece sheet metal punch set and Cornwell badged Ferrett Eluminator Optic 84 inductive timing light.

Second pic: Martin 1 7/16” & 1 ½” combo wrenches, CMan 1” combo, Snap-on 7/8” valve adjusting wrench, Dasco pin and center punches, Proto screw extractors, Klein screwdriver, unmarked and Starrett tap handles, Cman and Proto wrenches.

Third pic: Wright ½” universal, Snap-on and CMan impacts, Eklind extra long fractional t-handled hex drivers, Proto ½” extensions, Proto sockets, CMan sockets, Nicholson four-in-hand file.

Fourth pic: What I went for in the first place, the centering point and other parts of a Snap-on CJ83C puller set.

All for $25.

Fifth pic: From my second stop. Palmgren drill press vise, the jaws are 2 7/16” wide and open to 2 ½”.

Sixth pic: Also from the second stop. CMan wrenches and Greenlee knock-outs. The tappet wrench is a long C logo.

Paid $5 for the vise and $3 for everything else.

Started the day by driving an hour away to what was billed as an estate tool sale of a man who had a cabinet shop behind his house. Pictures show large powermatic, jet, delta, etc. Not a single house item listed or pictured. Listed as garage sale on CL. As I get close I start seeing auction signs. I get there 30 minutes after the sale was supposed to open to find about fifty dudes pissed off because they are auctioning in home items. I inquire and find out that they expect to get to the shop in a few hours. Only a few women there probably making a killing on the in home items. I find the woman responsibe for the CL add but think twice before going off on her. I've got better **** to do than sit there all day, so I hit the road. I'm betting they lost a ton of money because about half the crowd was doing the same as me.

After that bust, I struck out sale after sale before before dropping $5 on
10mm challenger by proto 3/8 drive
ryobi bolt removal set
New usa made lisle carb ajusting tool
Mayhew usa punch set. A couple are rusted but half are brand new.
Black and decker drill(I wanted to pay $3 for the above but he wanted $5 and told me to find something else. I pointed at the drill and he said okay.)
The old man told me I was a shrewd business man and said "young man you're the best negotiater I've had all day" with a smile. I think he liked the fact that I bought the carb tool.

The 7/16 cornwell wrench was given to me at another sale.

Went out today and found the normal kids cloths, Then I stumbled onto a moving sale, Lady said "What we all want to hear" My old man cheated on me, now I am selling his tools to pay for the move. Well she took me into the garage and it looked like he treated his harbor freight tools the same as he treated his woman. So no new tools there. My last stop of the day was another moving sale that listed tools, tools and more tools. I had high hopes and after digging through 4 tool boxes this is all the good tools that they had.
Craftsman stubby flexible 3/8, a flexible 3/8 s&k, pair of knipex pliers 1/2 metric craftsman socket set, a whole bag of tool box drawer clips and a craftsman hack saw all for 40.00

Thanks, Outlaw. That's a great idea. Like everyone else, I have an abundance of loose hex keys around. I thought about cutting some to fit, but didn't think about leaving some length on them. I have plenty of short hex sockets but I can't say that I have any long reach ones

Good start and welcome aboard! Looks like you've got a nice variety in there. I think one of the bits on the bottom is even a two flute end mill. That tap that is electrical taped onto (what looks like) an SK socket just made me think that I know what an odd square socket that was in the box I just got is for

Thanks guys! I'm on here a lot already, so much to see and read! Images are great so I will continue to post them :willy_nil

I also picked up this generator for $150 runs like a champion. The guy I bought it from was getting too "old" to use a pull start so he switched to a electric. I'm just glad to finally have a generator, and it's a 5K.

$175 total in garage purchases todday is a big... my wife wasn't overly excited

Wow, not many with guts still in them!

I could be interested in a couple of the Plvmb toggle arms from empties if available.

A much better day today. I went the local flea market. Most of the regular sellers stayed away in fear of getting wet this morning. No rain. I got there about an hour later than I wanted to (over slept), now I'm wishing I had got my **** out of bed this morning.

One of the new sellers was a clean-out company with a wide variety of stuff, including buckets and boxes of old tools. WHOO HOOO ! :rocker: I get to dig and get dirty ! :bounce: I spent almost an hour at that table. There were no sets, but I saw individual Proto, Plvmb, Vleck(?), Billings, Williams, Blackhawk, Bluepoint, SnapOn, Craftsman, and other brands all rusted in buckets and bins. After a recent drought on quality tools, I was in heaven. The clouds even opened up and the sun started to shine. No, really !

One of the employees turned out to be one of the guys who camped out at 3am friday morning at the estate sale I went to (and was disappointed by). It turns out that he was #14 and there were no tools when he went in either. Just the 3 or 4 pieces that went out the door first. A lot of guys were p*ss*d at the company that placed the ad.

Any way, back to the Flea. I had to weed my way through the crowd, but I managed to walk away with :

an unmarked oil can
4 - Williams Superrenchs - 15/16, 7/8, 25/32, 3/8
Craftsman =I= (circle I) #2 phillips screwdriver
Cman =V= 3/8dr 10" socket extension
Cman =V= 1/2dr 19/32 socket
and a pill box full of 14-16 uninsulated splayed terminals

AND, he only charged me $5 !
(they were trying to clear out their warehouse)

OK I had a decent trip to go get gas. I'd spotted a couple of Sunday yard sales listed for today, and stopped and got a RR track anvil that looks like it will clean up nicely, and 5" Wilton Cadet at one, and a 24" wide by 6" dia roll of drawer mat, and a Pelican 1470 small briefcase sized case.

$50 for the Wilton and anvil, and $10 for the mat and case. I need to strip out the bottom liner of the case and put foam in it. It's going to become a case for my hunting .44.

The Cadet is dated 6-68

I hit up a nearby estate sale this morning. Somehow I missed the listing for it yesterday or I would have really cleaned up.

When I walked into the garage there was a LARGE pile of metal items out by the door. In the pole were two giant old house radiators, a wrought iron railing some other trinkets and a LARGE maybe 8" vise. There was a man standing nearby negotiating a price with the seller. She was offering it all to him for free because he was a regular at their sales and said if he didn't take it they would scrap it out. He said it looked like a good pile so he gave her $20. :wtf: He went to get his truck. When he came back I asked him if he wanted to break even on the money he had just spent and sell me the vise for $20. He said he wanted to keep it. He then offered to give me a, "couple bucks" to help him load the radiators into the van. I countered and said I'd do it for the section of railroad track in the pile. Done.

I did find a decent sized Reed vise for $15. A dozen screw-in ceiling hooks for $3. A small railroad rail piece for $1, an old c-clamp for $1, and a pair of OLD coupe, quarter panels in the rafters. I had to climb up to get them down. The seller told me someone yesterday had said they were for a Model T. I wasn't sure what they fit but knew it looked mid-20's to early 30's. While I was loading them up a man said that they were for a '32 Ford. I just laughed and said, 'I doubt it, but if they are I just hit the mother lode!' Got those both for $5.

960f5f1ec19c7a08d4743bd32b2826a4_zps1e0630e5.jpg

I then spent the next 30 minutes removing the vise from the bench. In their brilliance someone had mounted it using four non-slotted carriage bolts that the nuts had now rusted to on two of them. That was not fun! I ended up using a breaker bar to break it through the top of the bench. Worth it! Ughhhhhh....

Hit up a flea market with alinc this morning. I didn't keep real good track of what I spent, but I got the MAC 3/8 driver in the picture (Andy pointed it out, I didn't even notice it was 3/8 drive), the 3 cornwell ratcheting wrenches, and 6 deep 1/4 Cornwell sockets from one vendor for $10 and probably spent about another $15 on a pile of SK and Cornwell sockets from various vendors.

After I got home, a guy finally gave me a call that I had e-mailed about his CL ad. Got out there this afternoon and was told that he thought it looked like a Snap-On but he couldn't find it anywhere, so he was pretty sure it wasn't. He got it from a storage unit with a few others and I dug through some of the tools but almost everything was engraved except for this small 4" Proto adjustable. Got the adjustable thrown in when I gave him his full asking price of $40 for the toolbox. I did point out on the way out how he could identify the stamping. This is a KRA-58B made in 65.

Everything works good, locks been replaced and there are about 7 extra holes in the lid but nothing too bad. He's got a ton of older craftsman (engraved) if you need it for anything. I almost got a couple of HS drill indexes from him but didn't really need them.

You definitely hit the jackpot on those quarters. They are not Ford of any year but most like '27-'28 Chevy or Chrysler and look to be from a roadster model. Research them for the exact make and model and you will have no problem getting many times your $5 investment.

Agreed! My information initially suggested Chrysler but then I put a post on the HAMB about them and some people are making a strong case for '28-ish Chevy. Coincidentally I just happen to have been hoarding a couple cowls and doors for a '27 Chevy for around ten years.

Maybe it was meant to be.

It's been a pretty good weekend of sales and purchases. Happened onto an estate sale near work on Friday. Most garage tools had been picked over but I started picking up single old wrenches left and before long had a hand full. Then down to the basement and on a table looking lonely was the old pent roof Dunlap tool box full of misc stuff.
the hand wrenches are a mix of Vlcheck, Barcalo, Wards, Indestro, Craftsman, and a few misc no name. Also found a Primo Boilable Dentist mirror, a nice tap handle and a set of Boy Scout fork, knife, spoon (not pictured). Also picked up the small Oxwal socket set box with some misc tools mostly just for the small metal box.
Once I emptied the Dunlap to wash it and threw away the really junk stuff there was still 29 various grinding stones and wire brush tools that may be usable.
It all totaled up to $23 and they rounded it down to $20 total.

Agreed! My information initially suggested Chrysler but then I put a post on the HAMB about them and some people are making a strong case for '28-ish Chevy. Coincidentally I just happen to have been hoarding a couple cowls and doors for a '27 Chevy for around ten years.

Maybe it was meant to be.

It seems that you're going to buy that car at the flea market one part at a time. :lol_hitti

Estate Sale #2 also on Friday but purely by chance while on my way home. Noticed the corner sign and even though it was 4:45pm I'd decided to take a chance and roll by the address. Well it was in full swing still and the sellers were proclaiming they wanted stuff gone and were giving good prices. Tools were all picked over in the garage and mostly really junky rusty stuff left. But being a tool box junky I found two that looked interesting and thought they might be salvaged even with the rusty hinges and hardware if the price was right.
So I took them to the seller and he says $1 each. $2 goes in his hands and I'm happy I can revive them to be useful again. One looks to be much older than the other.
First is the All American box which looks to be from the '80's maybe and it had a few crusty tools inside including a tap handle that can be cleaned up and made serviceable again.

Second is this older Simonsen tackle/tool box maybe from the 50's or 60's? Love the old decal with "Niki" the mascot dog.

These are destined for cleaning and just stopping the existing rust from advancing further but probably deserve to keep their original finish.

I think definitely meant to be. It's getting harder to find good 80-90 year old metal so with cowl, doors and quarters you have a good start on a hot rod there.

Final ES of Friday was a trip back to a private sale site. I had purchased a 3 1/2" Craftsman vise from a CL ad and after we traded backgrounds a little the seller announced he was overseeing the sale of shop contents for a friend that was very ill. This other site had another vise (turned out to be 4" Asian made) and a host of other tools and parts. He agreed to meet me Friday after work and open the place for my chance to make a pile of stuff at very reasonable pricing.
So the vise came home with me for $25 as that was the price of admission and it is usable. Also picked out a couple metal boxes, one small red one that is card file size and one that looks to be from some power tools but had no maker mark. I never get tired of metal boxes.

Digging around I found two new bags of zip ties, a good Craftsman ratcheting screwdriver and this old Blue Point tool kit for setting bearings.

The next cabinet yielded this NOS 12V electric fan and a box of 12 bags of brand new flex plastic wire loom covering. This will come in handy someday for my hot rod build.

Finally I added to my pile a couple of 3 ton Craftsman jack stands. Other than dusty they look almost never used. All this after the initial vise purchase was another $25 offer which he gladly accepted. Actually told me it was too much but I did not think so. It may require another trip back there yet to glean some additional goodies before the property is sold.

Thanks to CL which made me a good connection.

Saturday afternoon I finally made time to stop into a relatively new resale shop near me. Their collection of "stuff" keeps growing outside so it was time to take a look. Not a lot of tools to choose from and some things were pretty high priced but I'm always looking for hidden treasures.
Back of the shelf had this old (here I go again) metal tool/tackle box. The center latch says its a Climax brand box I'm guessing from the 50's maybe. Nice little square box with original removable tray and adjustable dividers. The three old lures are marked "Fritz" who I guess was the owner. With the easily removed tray this could be used either as a tackle or tool box. $5 and any old metal box I can get for $5 or less is always a deal.

This one I think deserves a good repaint in something that matches the Army green original color.
