Please Help

Here's what happened.

I was installing a dimmer switch in my master bedroom (pretty simple I thought)

I turned off the breaker to the master bedroom, which is the same breaker for the garage, 2nd bedroom, and hallway.

Installed the switch, turned the breaker back on, switch works fine and all the outlets in the master bedroom have power.

BUT, nothing else controlled by the breaker have power and I don't know how long I can live without power in my garage.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Did it trip a GFCI receptacle in the garage?

It did not, sorry I forgot to mention that.

Is by chance the feed for the garage coming from that switch box and it never got reconnected ? Just seems strange that all other devices are powered and not the garage

Is the dimmer controlling an overhead light in the bedroom or have you hooked it up to control a switched outlet?

Sounds to me like one of the leads isn't hooked up in the box. I would go back in and check my wire connections inside the wire nuts and my pigtails. Hope this helps.

You missed a wire in the box with the dimmer.

I had a simular situation a couple of weeks ago. Open Neutral. Found that I had neglected to connect a neutral in a junction box. I found my problem using my voltage detector. One of those that chirps when it is near a hot wire.

When the receptacle chirped but would run a tool, I started checking all the boxes between the receptacle and the panel. It saved me a lot of time and made me look not quite so dumb. Greenlee makes a good one, there are others; I think my last one was an Ideal. Expect to pay about $12-$15.

I took the dimmer switch back off, found the loose wire, rewired it, and presto!
