Hi all, I just picked up a Wilton 600 S.J …(SJ = Swivel Jaw). I don't know much about it. I was wondering if someone could educate me on the history/year it was built and possible value. I tried doing some research on the web with not much success. The vise is extremely heavy (150Lb). If anyone could tell me anything about this piece it would be greatly appreciated, thanks for your help.

Congratulations on a very nice Wilton! Unscrew the dynamic jaw out from the vise. On the bottom of the slide you may find a faint date stamped into it. Here is what mine looks like on my 450 Wilton.
View media item 8145Now a question for you. What vise is the Wilton sitting on in your photos?

that the vise kreighof is referring to that the 600 sj, the big one, the smaller one he has on top is a 400

Krieghof,
Are you sure that lower vise is a Wilton?
I've never seen that type.

Can we see a close up of the markings?

Well I'll be Jiggered!

'tis a Wilton but I have a feeling that it was made for Wilton back then by Parker. Just a feeling though Krieghof and I may well be swatted down as Ignernt by the vise specialists.
Interesting.

Airbuff,
Please see the close up photos.

Thats a nice vise! That vise might be newer like 1970's or newer when Wilton bought the rights to make that vise from Warren Tool or Ken Tool. Since then, the Columbian vise has had Wilton's name on it.

Wowzers! That is the first Wilton that I have seen designed like the turn of the century swivel jawed vises like Prentiss, Parker, etc. This forum is a continuing education.

Does anyone have a picture of a 600SJ vise? I have a Wilton with a swivel rear (stationary) jaw and a swivel base. I have no idea when it was made but it has been in daily use in my shop for about 40 years; maybe a little longer. Still just as good as it was when I got it. I would be happy to ost pictures of my vise but I haven't figured out how yet. Help and information would be appreciated.
