So it started out as an idea (My Garage almost Done)

21.5' X 19' Garage started as an idea. (Almost done, I will start at the beginning)

So my wife said I had to remodel the Master Bathroom then I could start on my garage... well a few weeks later I stared on the garage!

It started with sketchup model, These were made to scale so I can see if my vision would work.

Now for a bit of background. The wife and I are very into decorating for the holidays and have lots of Halloween and Christmas decor as well as all the other holidays on a smaller scale. Our first thought was to get a storage unit. But after calculating nearly $1000/year cost, that was dipping too far into garage remodel and later bar booze budget!

So I decided to incorporate storage into garage but did not want to see it. Also as a crafty guy I wanted to maintain a work space but did not want dust to get into the bar area.

So onto the solutions. I made one side of the garage storage with shelving to hold totes full of stuff. And gun safe etc. I extended the by pass doors that hide the totes to also hide the water heater area (wife's idea after I suggested a false wall) I decided a sliding wall to mask the work area from the bar and poker areas while being used I split this area and created a bar area where the bar could then roll away and hide while I was working in the garage.

All this while leaving enough room for a car to pull if I needed.

The garage floor was painted gray just around perimeter and carpet in the middle from previous owners... I rented a wood floor sander and used it to remove cheap paint from floor.... sssshhhh don't tell Depot.

I realized I was not starting with the best slate but I have no illusions its still just a garage floor.

Yeah the guy came alone dropped the panels from track luckily I was there to help. Took him 2 hours and cost me $250. Ugh now after watching him fix I could do it.

So first order of business was the storage wall, it was all built so I could take any part apart and make cubes biggers.

Then I started to frame up other side of garage for what will become the bar storage and the tools and work bench storage. The thing there you see with door partial open is a folding work bench, Folds up to 30"x30" but when open is an 8' work bench with peg board back. I will show that next.

You can see in this pic I had some bar stools given to me, and I I reporposed some shelves to use as the back bar.And I built my own license plate map of the US for behind the bar.

Here is lic plate map up close, I collected all the plates and cut them all out by hand with tin snips. It took about a year to collect the plates

Then I started Framing the MOving wall, this is a weird set up. I originally planned to use barn door hardware and have a nice smooth rolling wall... then I found out how much it would be so I cheap'ed out and did uni-strut with bolts and washers at the top and casters on the bottom... it works well:

Yes... one or the other... or both... just was not priority... as you can see in the build picks of the bench I had a 10' work bench before and had to consolidate all of that to make this lay out work.

How much $ do you have in material to build the folding workbench? Thank thing is awesome! I like how you're making this garage to be a flex dual purpose space.

The work Bench was pricey not going to lie. Most of it is made from doubled 3/4" Birch Ply, and Birch rails on the top surface. I got a lot of the material cheaper buying some Culled (edge damaged) sheets from my work (Lowe's at the time). When I priced it out to build one for a friend I was near $800 in material. But worth it for the space savings in this project... If I was just building a workshop I would not spend the money on something like it.

Ok so I know I dropped off of this but I will continue to update it and end with bad news... but for now the story continues.......

Time to trim out the walls a bit. This was really just to give a line to break up the multiple levels of sliding walls and hidden cupboards for storage.

Continued trim around room. In the last picture above just right of the corner is a cupboard and the trim is actually just painted on there the rest is 1x4 strips of MDF painted brown.

Now for DIY bypass doors to hide all the holiday storage stuff and gun safe.

Done but not textured and painted to match the walls yet. Hint: Water heater is now behind door all the way to the right.

Time to texture and paint the panels to match the rest of garage walls in hopes of blending them in better.

Again I painted on the trim board to match up to actual trim boards around the rest of the garage to hide the fact these were by pass doors.

Once the panels were textured and Painted to match time to hang some signs.

Now to start framing out the rolling bar. I wanted to keep this mobile for a few reasons. One I needed to be able to move behind rolling wall and back out for use or storage. Two I wanted to make sure if anything happened I could take it with me!

I used this underlayment as the paneling of bar front. I liked the layered grain look of it. Something different.

Took a moment to enjoy the fruits of my labor. Partial built bar in the back there had no top on it yet and we had some guest come by so we threw a table cloth over it.

Onto the bar top

I argued and argued with myself over weather or not to go with actual bar rail around bar top or not. Finally the cost of bar rail and the small amount I would need I just went with some nice molding pieces to create my bar rail around bar.

Your vision turned out beautiful! Just wondering, if some thing was to happen to your garage door, how is someone going to access the left side of your door without dismantling that whole corner?
